Angels Trade Frieri for Grilli

I mean, sure, it's good that Frieri is gone, but Grilli has been terrible this year himself. On the surface, I don't see how this bullpen got better

guess both teams are hoping the change of scenery will help

I really hope he isn't being made the closer.

Grilli has 11 SV, 4 blown saves, 1.623 WHIP. Has K'd 21, BB 11 and allowed 4 HR in 20.1 IP. .275 BA against. .320 vs. RH, .200 vs. LH.

Interesting to see what role they'll have him for as Scioscia has stated he wants Smith for the set-up man role because of his versatility.

Major bummer about Frieri. He was far from the pitcher who dominated in his first year with the team(Started with like a 23 ip scoreless streak?).

He can't be any worse. Ernie had a scared look on his face half the time. I think it will be addition by subtraction just like releasing Raul was. Ernie will find his slot again but it sure didn't look like he would do it for this staff.

Yep....  Ernie may have been toast here, period.

So basically Grilli is the new hard throwing struggling reliever Mike is gonna try to shoehorn into the closer's role.

Neat

Who's the better overall pitcher?

Not sure anymore. Grilli was the last few years, but this year's Grilli is looking pretty scary. Frieri has posted better peripherals(higher K rate and even a LOWER walk rate)

Grilli has a 4.87 BB/9 this year, which is not good and not what I want to see from a bullpen that already struggled with dishing out free passes
