So Bryce Harper was taken out of the game today for "lack of hustle" after he didn't bother running out a ground ball.

i firmly believe in running out balls in play, but i don't see what he did wrong from the gif. he hit a comebacker to the pitcher and peeled off after he was thrown out. anybody see it differently?

His spot came up in the bottom of the 9th with the tying run in scoring position btw.  Instead they got Kevin Frandsen, who grounded out.

Yes I agree that  you don't take him out of the game for that. He should be reprimanded but not a good way to show up your star player. This isn't little league.

Wow, he got pulled for that? Matt Williams looks like a dope as their new manager. Just seems like a move a new manager makes to try and demand respect in the clubhouse, and that's just not how it works

Not a harper fan, but thats stretching it. Unless something crazy happens, theres no way hes gonna be safe. And like has already been mentioned hes just coming back from injury

Skipper has his priorities all wrong, Bryce needs to work on not being a douchebag first and then put more hustle for his team. The kid really takes unlikeable to a whole new level, though.

Harper had quite the reputation as a douchebag in his teens, but he's kept a pretty low profile since being in the majors.

He didn't get benched just for that.  This is rooted in something going on in the clubhouse with this kid.  Just about every player in the league jogs to first when they hit a come backer.

For all we know, the benching may have been a culmination of previous incidents with his poor hustle to 1st being the final straw. Injury could have been him creating an excuse for his pathetic display. All we can do is speculate though, so who knows.

I like Harper.  I think he's a pretty good guy.  Nothing wrong with confidence.  Anyways, big deal.  He was already out.  It didn't matter.
