If this is really a year to just see what the team has in terms of its younger players and prospects, it wouldn’t seem to make much sense to sign a vet who is a PR nightmare, and would take starts away from someone else’s development. Unless Bauer is part of a long-term plan, it would seem counterproductive to what Perry is trying to do this season. I don’t get the obsession.

We do know one thing: Whatever information they do have must not amount to criminal behavior. And if that is the case, then not only is Whore #1 lying, but Whores #2 and #3 are as well.  Big surprise.

Is it illegal, though? There is no suspension in place, and teams are free to sign him if they choose to. MLB isn’t required to employ everyone who is good at hitting and throwing a baseball. Bauer has shown throughout his career that he isn’t skilled enough for teams to overlook what a clown he tends to be off the field. He’s a distraction, and apparently not good enough to be worth it.

I've mentioned this before, but it's possible that the totality of the information MLB has is enough to scare owners off, while still not being enough to bring charges in any individual case.  For MLB/the owners, maybe it's about the overall pattern of behavior.

Again: I'm not arguing for or against anything. Just pointing out a possibility.

I am not saying I agree with the owners, but consensus is not collusion.

The fact that they aren’t signing him should tell you that there is a better chance whores 2 and 3 aren’t lying.  Every owner wants value, and if they aren’t signing him then that means they don’t see value in him, even at league minimum.  Common sense tells you that there is more than we know.

And if there was real collusion, then first and foremost Bauer would be filing a lawsuit against the league, that hasn’t happened and we are now two off-seasons into him being available.  Secondly, the players union would be filing a grievance on his behalf.  That hasn’t happened.  The league is still paying Wander right now and he is still on administrative leave instead of being suspended without pay, and his problems seem to be more severe than what we know about Bauer.  So what don’t we know about Bauer?  Also, it isn’t the leagues responsibility to come out and air his dirty laundry and say, “This is why we aren’t signing him”.
