Blowpen tally

I'm losing track. Is that the 4th or 5th out of 7 losses?

6th.  It was their 10th Meltdown (FG stat relative to win prob) Six of which have come from Loup and Tepera.  their WPA over is -0.91 which is 9th worst in baseball as a team and -1.37 for Loup and Tepera.  Add Herget in there and it's -1.7

Some argued that having a better offense would take some pressure off the pen.  Not so much.

They've play 9 games decided by 2 runs or less.  They're 3-6 in those games.  Not all of those losses are on the pen.  There's some bad baseball in there but I can't think of anything more frustrating than blowing leads and losing close.

This is a good team.   Really good teams make the most of their opportunities.  They're good enough to go on a 14 game win streak whereas last year they were bad enough for a 14 game losing streak.  This team just isn't capable of the latter.

I am disappointed they are .500 after 14 games.  That's how I feel about this team.  And I'm gonna keep bitching when they leave wins on the table.  Sometimes it feels like they're trying not to lose though.

Yes, all well said. We can hope that over a larger sample size, things will even out a bit and they'll start winning more of those close games. But it is only 14 games, so there can be a lot of swing. But I think the frustration is natural for all of us, when it feels like they "should" be 9-5 or 10-4. In a way, though, I think we just need to buckle in and see where they're at after 30-40 games before going ballistic. If they're still 15-15 or 20-20 and still losing close games two-thirds of the time, I think the concern will be more legitimate.

I was thinking that in ST.

Guy has been lights out though as a starter in the early going.

Maybe later on, he’ll need to be inserted into the rotation here?

Nice piece to have when he’s ready, assuming we’re in contention he could be used in the pen in the second half and go back to starting next year.

Get ready Joyce, Torres, and Murphy, and get the control under control.

You will all be needed down the road.

Joyce and Torres need to get their control issues "under control" before even being in the conversation.... Limiting free passes is one area the pen has been great at, 2nd best walk rate in MLB

The bullpen is bipolar at the moment.  Estevez, Moore, Quijada, and Wantz are performing to expectations, Herget, Loup, Tepera, and Barria are not.

Anderson and Suarez are not performing at the moment among the starters.

Barria had one bad game, his first appearance. Since then he's pitched 5 innings and hasn't allowed a hit.  He's fine as a slop RP.  I'd rather not see him pitch in a high leverage situation but he's fine as a long man/mop up guy IMO.
