Kurt Suzuki to retire after the season?

“Kurt Suzuki, who is expected to retire after the season, is on the active roster but hasn’t played since Aug. 28. He missed some time on the bereavement list this month, and Nevin said the 38-year-old catcher has been working back into game shape since taking time to be with his family.“

“Behind the scenes, Suzuki continues to work alongside Thaiss and Stassi in game-planning meetings.“

“He’ll play,” Nevin said of Suzuki. “He’s meant a lot to this organization. He’s meant a lot to baseball. He’s going to get a game or two, get a nice send-off for him. You’ve got to give him time to get in shape.”

I like the guy, but it's time for him to retire.  Too bad we didn't have the younger version of Suzuki.  I still think he would make an outstanding catching coach.

Get in shape? He was on the bereavement list for six days. He was cleared to play 9 days ago.

Maybe once robo umps are introduced and pitch framing holds no value.

Right now, teams value pitch framing a lot— and Suzuki can’t even learn how to frame himself, so I’m not sure how well he’d be able to teach it.

Pretty respectable long major league career. Catchers are more important than just their batting stats. He has his world series ring and will probably appear at future Washington anniversary celebrations. He had a few nice Angel moments and played his role adequately.
