My coworkers son is joining a traveling team after fall ball. Some of the coaches sound like real assholes.

Some of the coaches are pretty gnar during games. Running a travel ball program is a career for many of them. $300/mo per kid. If you run multiple teams you could rake in $100/mo profit on each one if you're smart. If your program has a 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U and 14U team with 12 kids each you can make a decent little living doing it. You attract kids (parents) usually by winning so some of these guys get pretty insane when things aren't going well. Sucks for the kids.

Adam, it’s well worth it if your kid is legit. My friends sons played travel ball - first round and fifth round draft picks. Played travel ball through 20.  Been fun to watch their minor leagues.  Yeah it costs an arm and a leg.  But there’s money in boys sports.

My daughters played club soccer and their league games were in 3 states with a lot of tourneys. Easy 500-600 a month all-in.

Theres little dough in girls sports though.

My 10yo son is in travel ball, just completed his first season. It was a lot fun because we had a pretty low-key group that was just interested in getting better while playing in some local tournaments. But there sure are some serious AF teams out there. Teams with multiple jerseys, embroidered coffin bags, 4 different bats, Oakley shades, playing in tournaments every weekend. Gnarly stuff.

If you're on Insta, you must follow this guy: mpthreebaseball

He is a travel ball Dad but makes fun of all the hype, the parents, umps, etc. Funny stuff.

Your boy has a good powerful swing! I'm actually trying to get mine to swing harder.

I am assuming there are enough tournaments going on in your area that you can stay plenty busy playing locally. The furthest we've travelled is to Long Beach and La Mirada for tournaments. There's multiple tourneys every weekend in OC for the most part and the competition is good enough that we don't have to pack the family truckster too often. That would suck.

We are gonna do an AZ and CO tournament next year. Should be fun.

My kid is 10U too. Fun age. They really start to play the game well at this age.

We did not intend to do anything other than Little League until he was 12/13 but he loves it and can't get enough.

You’ll need a good car for traveling. Try this, only get the Article Blue.
