Before the season, based on what I saw of Ohtani, I thought he had potential to be good, maybe even really good, but I never imagined he would/could be this good.  He is simply amazing in what he has done so far this year, and it’s a pleasure to watch him play.

As I said before in the Ohtani thread, it going to be great to tell my grandkids I got to watch a “once in a generation” player like Mike Trout and I also got to watch a “once in a lifetime” player in Shohei Ohtani.

Simply amazing stuff he is accomplishing in baseball this year and I’m glad to be a witness to it.

"That's awesome, granddad. How many World Series did they win together?"

"Well, kids, lemme tell you about their pitching..."

That’s insane, just unreal.

My hope before the season was that he combined his 2018 hitting (149 wRC+) and just stayed healthy as a pitcher. He's much better with the bat (181 wRC+) and showing no signs of wear as a pitcher. He still has some kinks to iron out as a pitcher, but I think he's getting there, the last start notwithstanding.

It is also worth noting that his BA is slowly going up. I'm hoping that he can finish in the .290-.300ish range. That seems to be his true talent level.

Over the last 30 games he has hit .333 / .449 / .988 for a major league leading 1.437 OPS - I'm hoping that is his true talent level.

Maybe just as impressive is that when he pitched his worst game of the season so far, and only got two outs while giving up 7 runs, his team rallyed around that and won the game in the most unbelievable manner possible against the New York Yankees and Chapman.  That is the definition of AWESOME!!!!

Games like that - and last night's - are something a team can build from.  The team redeeming Shohei had to mean a lot to him.  And seeing the absolute joy on every player's face last night was awesome, to see how much fun they're having playing the game.

Put Trout back in the line-up, and win or lose, this will be a team *everyone* wants to watch - and no one wants to play
