For me, if you are looking at spending the sort of money needed to get Pederson or schwarber then Kiki Hernandez is the obvious choice as he could cover the outfield and 2nd base if required.

How about Ohtani in RF, he played it in Japan. If he is not able to pitch in 2021 have him in RF, he's a great athlete has great speed and use Schwarber as DH.

While I definitely like Hernandez' versatility, the key thing is we need LHH.  Our every day lineup basically is limited to Ohtani and Walsh as our LHH, and Ohtani is only slated to hit up to 4 days per week, we do need a legit lefty bat in the lineup.  Hence the rumors for a LHH OF, as that is the most natural fit on this team, since there's no room for a LHH at 3B, SS, 2B, CF.

My preferred option is still Pederson, since he can capably play both RF and LF.  If they don't have the financial resources to sign him, or he proves too expensive, then Dahl would be an option, although he isn't much of a fielder, either.

Schwarber is intriguing if there's a plan in place to have Ohtani get some reps in RF, which would open up either DH or LF for Schwarber, depending on where Upton plays.

It all comes down to cost, though.  I suspect the Angels are looking for a cheap option, since they are probably earmarking most of their financial resources for SP.

Hard to say, but consider:  over a full season, the lowest fWAR Schwarber has accumulated has been 1.7, and that's with mediocre defense.  His bat is very good, and if you can get a 2-3 fWAR player at a cost of like 1/5, which is probably roughly what it would take to sign him, you have to at least consider it, right?

Serious question, if they plan on having Ohtani pitch and he somehow stays healthy for at least 15-20 starts, isn’t that a lot for someone to take on (pitching, hitting, playing RF)?

Now, if it’s determined that he needs to convert to relief pitching, it MIGHT be a little more doable to play RF.

If Ohtani isn't pitching in 2021, why would that be?  Concerns about his arm?  Wouldn't RF be an issue for the same reason?

Maddon said last season that it was a waste for Ohtani to just be a DH and not play somewhere in the field, given how athletic he is.  The RF speculation is simply because he played it before, but who knows, maybe he'll just be DH and that's it.  If he did play RF, I would imagine it'd be a few starts at most per week, but probably less than that.

Ohtani is not playing a position until one of two things occur. Either he's set as a starter and feels he can do more (doubtful) or the arm just isn't there and they decide to retire him as a pitcher and go full time position player. Neither of those scenarios is this season. Maddon says a lot of things. Medically, I seriously doubt that's going to fly in 2021.
