In all sincerity, it’s a weird regional diction thing. Most Kansas people say Kerr-nee, most Nebraskans say Karr-nee. It’s an easy way to figure out where people out here are from.

Sidenote: I lived on Kearney St through most of college. This was a frequent argument.

It’s a bit different, as the huskers are basically everything to everyone. No pro sports teams. The only other reasonably competitive college sports programs are at Creighton, and that’s considered a rich kid school by most. Kansas has a bit more of a divide between the KU, KSU, and Wichita State devotees.
