Yeah, China has been making a pretty strong play in sub-Saharan Africa for the last couple of decades. It's a smart move on their part. It's been obvious for some time that they intended to use all of their infrastructure investment there as a platform to expand their sphere of influence globally, which of course. I think the question has always been whether or not it would be a soft/passive economic/political move (massive population growth, insane resource wealth, further diversified shipping routes/opportunities... just provide the development and reap the benefits) or if they would eventually use that influence to create a stronger global military presence in addition to the above.
