Thinking about buying a spare freezer for my garage. Anyone know how long you can freeze meat with vacuum seals?

Man, I have gone quite a while. My grandmother in KC goes by the 2-4-4 rule and it seems to work (2 hours on the counter, 4 days in the fridge, 4 months in the freezer), but when I bought a vacuum sealer I can keep things in there forever both the freezer and fridge. I think when you buy the sealer in the manual there is a time frame guide or you can look it up on YouTube. A bunch of housewives have some good insight on what to do and how to handle it.

If it has freezer burn, toss it. But if the seal is solid you can probably go 6-8 months with it still being good. Just make sure when you thaw it that it gets cooked right away or toss it.

Yeah they still really don't know what socialism is. It's funny.

some of us do. i am not really happy with the whole deal. Problem with so called conservatives. Scare them with the econmy or sickness and they are willing to abandon free market and individual liberties.

Great points and stay safe.  I have hard time believing all this just about saving lives anyway. We can save 3000 lives a day for free but nobody seems to care about the 40 million babies since roe v wade. things may change but we are losing about the same lives per day as the flu. we dont  get daily updates on the flu.

Actually the point I was trying to make is that the potential deaths from Covid-19 appear to at least double the annual death toll in the US (which includes the regular flu).

I do it all the time. 3-6 months is ideal but i have ate some shit up to a year and didnt die. Probably go a little less if it is store bought. I buy mine from farmers

Thats WITH vacuum sealing it? I thought just freezing from the store is 6 months or so, but vacuum sealed up to a year?

They say and I believe it is more contagious and preys on elderly or existing conditions. Im looking at cdc flu numbers for the last 10 years and we lose 12-61k per year. That is 32-167 per day. Corona has hit 20 a day since first death and I am sure it has not peaked.I can see a few weeks shutdown to evaluate and slow spread. I am not convinced we need to spend a trillion and live in basement for a year just yet. do wish you well though and hopefully you have someone to shop for you.

Canned chili?  You really need to buy yourself a crock pot.

I should note it depends on the item. I bought some gnar cheese and put it in the sealer and think it lasted two years. I'm a bit less flexible with meats, poultry, and steaks. But it lasts a long time. I would go to Costco and buy the family size of steaks, salmon, or chicken and then come home and seal everything and freeze it. I never did a budget or count out the savings, but I imagine it's ridiculous.

I would seal damn near everything perishable and then use the green bags for the veggies. I'm lazy or get bored with a strict diet and veer off, so having the extra time and being able to go off course and get a burrito or InO on random days didn't diminish my stock.

yes vacuum seal. you can do a year but sometimes loses quality or it gets freezer burnt. Key is good labeling and rotation. reliable energy is crucial as well. hopefully you dont have a lot of power outages in your area. i have gen backup. that stuff thaws and all bets are off

Wait.

Do you eat the chili cold out of the can like a hobo?

If so, that's pretty cool

It's not bad. At the Dollar Tree you can get decent cans of chili for a dollar and a package of tortillas. Just dip the tortilla in the can until it's gone. Then repeat.

While on Amazon grab the green bags for the veggies. These things are awesome. I can keep asparagus and broccoli for an extra week or so.
