Ryu, Yamaguchi, Donaldson, Bundy, and Castro -- would that be a solid enough off-season?

Blurb from that:  The best MLB comp for Yamaguchi might be Mike Fiers, a right-hander who lulls hitters to sleep with offspeed pitches and a 90-ish mph heater.

Sounds REAL enticing. Lulls.

Another blurb:

" The stats are obviously very good, though the scouting reports indicate he does not project to be an impact starting pitcher in the big leagues."

The Angels signed 32-year-old Zack Cozart after he put up his best season in a contract year. It was such a disaster that they had to part with their first-round draft pick just to get rid of Cozart.

They signed 30-year-old Justin Upton after he put up his best season in a contract year. The jury is still out, but so far it has been a disappointment, and last season was a disaster.

I do not want any part of 33-year-old, overweight, Hyun-jin Ryu after he just put up his best season in a contract year, and I'm a little shocked that some people think that's a good option.

Cozart had a low .700s career OPS with the Reds, including the big 2017 season.   THAT was signing based on a career year.

Upton had over a .830 career OPS, before being traded to the Halos.

Ryu has a career 2.97 ERA and career 1.16 WHIP, and over the past two seasons has a 2.20 ERA and 1.01 WHIP.    The one issue is of course staying healthy.   He did finally pitch 182.2 innings in 2019.

If he were five years younger and in shape, he would be a very valuable commodity. I've read rumors that he is looking at 5/150M. That is a hell of a gamble for a 33-year-old guy who hasn't been able to stay healthy, and one I hope the Angels don't take.
