I was surprised by this.  I thought Fletcher was great but didn't realize his D was good enough to get recognized like this.  Really happy for him, he had such a great year.

It's a testament to him being an overall stud defensively.  

Also, pretty much anyone who is a finalist is deserving of the award.

I don't think Fletcher will win his award over Chapman.  Simmons was hurt for too much of the season to win it at SS.  I'm surprised to see Calhoun as a finalist, since this wasn't one of his finer defensive seasons. 

But I think Trout has a legitimate shot at winning the Gold Glove this year.  He should have won it last year.  Kiermeier is probably the best defensive CF but after watching Trout and Bradley enough, I've felt for years now that Trout is still the better defender, despite the press that Bradley gets for his glove.

I don’t think Fletch had enough games at 3B to get the votes. But it’s totally awesome to see him get the recognition.

A few things on this....

Managers and coaches vote. And you can’t vote for someone on your own team. 
 

So in cases where there is one obvious choice who everyone would pick, the coaches on his team have to vote for someone else. 
 

Also, the voting already happened. It’s a misnomer to call them finalists, because that implies there is another round of voting.

Rafael palmero won a GG at first base the year he played liked 25 games.
