IDK, i mean could they, yes i agree and believe that could have... but im not sure i would want them to even at that AAV.  From what ive read there is no deferment, not nothing tricky, just a straight 25M AAV.  13 years is a career, literally, im not sure i would want to hitch that wagon to anyone in the game not named Trout.

I can agree with that completely. I'm just looking it at the fact of committing to a 26 year old rather than a 32 year old. Harper will have 6 years left once he hits 32 years old. I'd take that risk hoping he finds some great prime years within the first 6. If the Phillies can win a championship at lest during his prime and have a few seasons of deeps runs in the playoffs then the contract would justify itself.

Perhaps, theres certainly no arguing what they have done this off season around what was already a good young core.  But if your going to commit to that, it better be bulletproof.  I dont see him as such.

Nobody is bullet proof ... Harper keeps his body in excellent shape and his intensity level isn’t going to change imo.

I still wouldn’t give ANY player a 13 year deal.

Well, i did say perhaps, lol
Seriously though who can predict such things, but they are making the effort, thats not debatable.  Remember they also added Segura, Realmuto and more to go along with Harper.  Thats got to be on track for at least 88-90 at this point.  FG had them at 86 prior to this with the 4th best record in the NL behind the dodgers Nats and Cubs so the post season should be more than realistic.

Scouts continue to rave about his awareness. A real student of the game. Prior to each road series, Bryce has been known to review field dimensions, and visualize potential ball tracking situations.......

He was apparently not aware of where the wall was...or how wide the warning track is...

Has Fangraphs updated their 2019 predictions for teams, since the Harper signing? They show them still four games behind the Nats.

Or will they wait until the the signing becomes "official", whatever that is in this age of social media.

it's already updated.
