The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired defender Jake Muzzin from the Los Angeles Kings, the club announced Monday.

In exchange for the veteran rearguard, Los Angeles receives Carl Grundstrom, the rights to Sean Durzi and Toronto’s first-round pick in 2019.

With a late 1st alot of good Dmen available around that range in the draft. Perhaps you can get Heinola around there as long term replacement for Muzzin.

I imagine by the draft the team will look much different as will their draft pick inventory.

Overall, that 1st round pick will be a good get.  But looking at the stats.

Jake Muzzin.  2 years left.  $4 million per.  He's a 40 point scorer.  But this season on pace for something around 30.  Also 2 seasons ago, only had 28 points.  He's also 29, so a bit old in hockey.

What the Kings got is the 1st rounder.  And this looks to be an extremely deep draft.  They also receive Carl Grundstrom.  21 year old, 2nd rounder, 57th overall.  29 points in 42 games.  And Sean Durzi.  20 year old, 2nd rounder.  OHL stats 49 points in 40 games 2 years ago.  And 28 points in 26 games so far this year.  Not bad at all for a Dman.

Overall.  I think the Kings did well.  I wish the Ducks would make these kinds of trades.

sad to say i agree with you.

carter has been one of my all time favorite kings.

martinez will always hold a spot of infamy for his cup winning goal and epic jazz hands in game 5.

Carter's acquisition helped to pave the way for the 2012 SC title, and eventually 2014's SC title as well, but is getting up there in years.

Martinez has been mostly solid, and of course owner of the 2014 WCF clincher and 2014 SC title clincher off of a wide open rebound shot, but is starting to get a little up there in years.

Time to rebuild around Drew, Kopi, and Quick.

Will Brown be tradable with his remaining contract years and advancing age?

Only if you really sweeten the deal. Might not be worth it since the Kings aren't exactly going to be competitive for the majority if not all of his remaining contract.

Brown is down to just three remaining seasons under contract after this one, for a total of $13.5 million still due him, with cap hit of $5.875 million each season.

Could they trade him after the season, sending say half of his remaining salary in the trade?    Don't really need anything coming back, just need to free up some cap space and roster space for younger players.    Some contender must still have a need for him, even though he's 35 through 37 to close out the contract?

When the Kings play the Ducks in April near end of season will the Ducks fans be rooting for the Kings to win & the Kings fans rooting for the Ducks to win cause of Hughes ?

The Freeway series: Who can Tank the best !

0-0 game goes into overtime with the following 3 on 3 OT lines:

Kings: Thompson - Scherbak & Phaneuf

Ducks: Kesler - Eaves & Dotchin.

Rumors have Quick going to Columbus if Bobrovsky gets traded to Florida for a first rounder either this year or next.

Might as well have Brown mentor the kids as this point. Cap space likely won't be an issue. Isn't worth sweetening any deal to move his contract.
