I don't think the Ohtani as a hitter experiment will last long. The guy has legit power but he was putting up K rates of 25-27% in limited AB's in Japan. Bring that swing and miss game to MLB and you're looking at a DH who will struggle to hit .230

19s Lots of confirmations coming from teams that have been told they're out on Ohtani (around 13-14 so far) and radio silence from the #Angels. Make of it what you will.

Well #RadioSilence is better than hearing confirmation that we are out!

Well if Bob Nightengale says it, then he is definitely NOT going to the Mariners.  Nightengale is terrible with his accuracy.

I'd be stoked if we got him, but I am not convinced of his greatness. We have yet to see a truly dominant starting pitcher come out of Japan. For as good as guys like Tanaka and Darvish are, they arent at the level of guys like Scherzer, Kershaw, Sale and Kluber.

The prize in acquiring him isn't that you are getting one of the future top 5 pitchers in baseball, but rather that you are most likely getting a solid #2 starter on a minor league deal.  It'd be somewhat akin to having an elite level prospect reach the majors and dominate.  We don't have many young elite pitchers coming up in our farm system.  He'd be huge for us and we'd get him for pennies on the dollar.

Mariners already said they'd move Cruz to the OF so Ohtani can DH. Angels gonna show video of the 2011 WS to show him how bad the defense behind him will be with Cruz fielding in RF

I would wager Ohtanhi will select an American League team because of the DH.....it allows him to pitch and hit without being troubled with playing defense.

“Truly dominant” is the operative phrase. Tanaka and Darvish are both borderline ace #2 types, like Dan Haren when he was good. Nothing wrong with that.

The other nice thing about him being two-way is that it essentially gives a team a 26-man roster.
