I read this fantastic piece earlier.  They are applying the same tactics all over the country.  The outlook for moderate and liberal politics is truly in crisis.

People have this binary reaction toward politics where if they don't like the other side then their side must be right.  In reality both parties are shit slinging pieces of garbage.

True government works best when it is 100% local.  What people in LA need is in no way the same as what people in Modesto or Nashville need.

People look at politics too often as bottom up. The right dominated Texas because of top-down. They gamed the system (gerrymandering, right-to-work) and minimized the effect of their opposition. While the left was trying to play it straight (as it gets in Texas which is certainly relative) and do good while the right was too busy winning "the game".

That has been one criticism of state government here. Often rural communities impose their will on the rest of Nevada through the legislative process at the state level, when the bulk of state revenue comes from Clark County. If it weren't for the revenue from the Las Vegas area, a lot of those rural areas would be deserted wastelands.
