US to pull out of Paris Accords

I'm fine with not being in this.  It's a voluntary thing, with the countries making their own rules that are not enforceable.  It's perfect for snowflakes to get up in arms over though.

I heard that international businesses like Ford are against pulling out because the standards in the U.S. will be different than the rest of the world. America first!

It's not just Ford, companies like Exxon were lobbying the US to stay as well as they understand the potential impact has on not just the US, but the global economy.

US continues to cede leadership on key issues, allowing countries like China to take on a larger role. Hard to imagine just how shortsighted this is when it comes to who owns and builds future energy technologies. If the US thought it was a bad deal or adjustments were made, having a seat at the table would have allowed them to continue having those discussions.

Separate but similar issue Hasn't or isn't he planning on rolling back the mpg requirements on auto manufacturers that were supposed to go into place ? As far as I know all the auto manufacturers were going to be able to hit the targets.  Isn't that a good thing ? What's the point.  Fucking dumb.

Obviously someone important to Trump thinks this is going to make them a lot of money. Trump wouldn't bother scratching his ass otherwise. The fact that:

1. This helps he newly found constituents in the former blue firewall doesn't hurt.
2. If the left hates it, his base will correspondingly love it.

Markets Close at Record High Following Trump's Paris Climate Accord Announcement

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped about 20 points in the 3 p.m. hour during the President's speech, closing at a record high of 21,142.81. It was the first time the Dow had a record high since March 1. The S&P and Nasdaq also closed trading at record highs.

I think there has been talk about rolling back mpg requirements, and they've already rolled back coal plant emission standards and gutted clean water regulations. Not that it will actually lead to any coal jobs.

This comes from the Bannon/Pruitt crew, from early accounts sounds like the moderates and most of the business leadership was in favor of staying in the accords. It's profoundly shortsighted, there were mechanisms within the agreement for the US to address issues they might have had.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/trump-turns-his-back-on-the-planet/2017/06/01/d581afb4-4624-11e7-98cd-af64b4fe2dfc_story.html?hpid=hp_no-name_opinion-card-f%3Ahomepage%2Fstory

The agreement was the world’s best hope to ensure that big developing nations such as China and India did their share, addressing GOP concerns that these countries would refuse to sacrifice along with the United States. It did not lock in exactly how the United States and other nations would help. Rather, it created an international expectation of voluntary commitments from every nation, enforced by diplomatic pressure. All of Mr. Trump’s arguments for withdrawing, in other words, are unfounded. He could have adjusted, even minimized, the U.S. commitment without trashing the framework.

You have to wonder what the next bogeyman will be for the factory/coal miner in the Appalachian region when these moves don't do shit to improve the local economy and bring back extraction and heavy industry jobs in that area.

IBM owns TWC and Weatherunderground now? Huh.

Interesting...don't think they own the broadcast channel, but the digital assets.

The two companies’ joint press release announcing the deal focused on IBM’s Internet of Things unit powered by its Watson artificial intelligence project. The basic idea is that small changes in the weather drive all sorts of human activities, and by predicting the weather in advance, an IBM supercomputer could also help position businesses to be more profitable. “People generally check the weather because they're planning to do something," Weather Company CEO David Kenny told the Wall Street Journal back in 2013. Having one of the most popular mobile apps and an easy-to-remember URL helps a lot in making money off checking the weather. Kenny will join IBM as part of the deal.

The funny part is that owners of the cable network then have to license back the right to the TWC brandname along with the weather data from IBM.
