Fearless Predictions - the 2013 Edition

  • Albert Pujols will have his best year as an Angel. It won't be vintage Pujols, but it will be very, very good - his best since 2010. I'm thinking something akin to .300+, an OPS around .950 and around 35 HR.
  • Mark Trumbo will have his best season yet, finding a happy medium between his first and second half last year. How does .270/.330/.550 with 35 HR sound?
  • Mike Trout will take a step back, but not by much. He'll still hit around .300 with a .900 OPS, plus 25-30 HR and 45+ SB. Another 8+ WAR season, in other words.
  • Pujols, Trumbo, Trout, and Hamilton will hit 120+ HR between them, averaging 30 HR a piece - although only Pujols and Trumbo will surpass 30. My prediction: 34, 33, 28, 29 = 124.
  • "Three for 200" - Hank Conger, Luis Jimenez, and Kole Calhoun will all get more playing time than expected, with 200+ PA each.
  • The Tommy Field Era Beginneth - by mid-season Tommy Field will win out over Andrew Romine and Bill Hall as Scioscia's preferred utility infielder.
  • Vernon Wells will be retired before he retires.
  • Garret Richards and CJ Cron will be delt before the trading deadline.

blanton out of the rotation by mid season with an 'injury'.  Richards in and does well.  mid 3's to low 4's era.

Calhoun gets 350abs and is the primary 4th OFer and backup 1bman.

Kendrick, Aybar and Callaspo will all hit close to .300.  (Kendrick and Aybar will and Callaspo will hit at least .280)

Tommy Hanson will have a very good season with 190ip and a 3.5era.

Trumbo will have a higher ops than Hamilton.

I don't think Jimenez will get 200 ABs, but I wouldn't be surprised that Calhoun and Conger to get them.  I am also willing to bet Hamilton gets 30+ HR's.  Blanton will suck and Richards is in the rotation before season ends.  I do not see any trades, we don't have enough to get a significant peace so Cron stays with the club.

1. The Marine Layer will be blamed for three to four missed opportunities in April;

2. Artie will finally stop playing "Build Me Up Buttercup" in the middle of the seventh and the team will have a record number of actual "rallies" late in the game;

3. A fan will streak the outfield in early August, only to be tackled and tazed by Anaheim's finest. Further investigation will reveal that this fan was actually Roger Lodge, who went on a two week bender after being let go from AM 830 (No malice in this last comment- I actually enjoy the Sports Lodge).

  • We'll see more of first half Trumbo and he'll hit closer to the .300 mark.
  • Bourjos will struggle out of the gate before returning to his 2011 self.
  • CJ Wilson will out pitch Jered Weaver and finish in the top 3 Cy Young voting
  • Joe Blanton will be out of the rotation by the trade deadline being either replaced with Richards or a trade.
  • Tommy Hanson will look as good as he did in his first couple seasons.
  • Conger plays in 80+ games.
  • Pujols will win 2013 AL MVP

Trumbo will be our homerun leader

Kendrick will have a solid season hitting .290

Pujols will end up hitting .280 for the season but will miss 20+ games due to some nagging injuries

Bourjos will hit .250 for the season

Iannetta will hit .225 and won't last the entire season without an injury

Trout will hit .315 and continue to amaze us

Hamilton will hit .285 but will strikeout plenty of times

Pitching will be hot and cold all season

Santana will pitch well against us

We will have at least one starter in the All Star Game

It's going to be an exciting season and we will make the playoffs.

-Pujols posts a .290/.360/.550 slash line.

-Hamilton regresses a decent amount but still posts a very good .890 OPS and has some huge hits.

-Trout's slash line regresses a bit but he posts more home runs and stolen bases.

-Aybar has a great year. .310 average with 25 stolen bases.

-Weaver sees an uptick in strikeouts and finishes top 5 once again in Cy Young Voting

-CJ has a big bounce back year and pitches 210 innings of 3.10 baseball

-Hanson has injury issues and we make a move for another starter to fill his void.

-Blanton isn't as terrible as everyone expects and has a respectable 4.35 ERA

-Madson is back to form and posts a sub 2 ERA

-The bullpen finishes top 5 in ERA

-Angels win 93 games and division

Trout in 30/40 club again. Yawn.

Aybar leads AL in bunts, yet thrive in the 2 hole.

Pujols within 90% of last year's numbers, and cost Hamilton 20 RBIs with stupidity on the basepaths.

Hamilton will be trashed at every opportunity by the LA Times, but out produce the guy in front of him.

Trumbo will be closer to last year's 2nd half numbers than 1st half. Will hit one 500'.

Bourjesus will uppercut his way out of the lineup, ending up a defensive replacement with less than 25 SB.

Conger will give way to Hester due to rust form not playing more than once a week.

Hester will suck ass.

Poor man's Panda will quietly produce decent numbers hitting 7th with solid glove work at 3B.

Iannetta will hit 20 HRs and clog Trout's path even when he doubles.

Weaver will lose some velocity. Ks will drop, but Wins will remain constant as he goes to other pitches in his toolbag.

Wilson wins 20 with this lineup behind him.

Hanson blows his shoulder out before spring is over. Walden will save 40+ in NL.

Vargas will win ugly, and be better than .500 overall.

Blanton will eat more innings to carbs than in the past.

Madson will appear healthy in time for the trading deadline.

Frieri will blow 10 saves before going to the 7th inning slot.

Cordero will take over the setup role in the 8th.

Jepsen will close eventually, without dominating hitters.

Wells will have a farewell tour type atmosphere surrounding his retirement year in 2014.

Kole Calhoun will rake against our staff every time he faces us for the rest of a long productive career with some other team.
