No one can compete with Kohl’s on the annoying biz model scale

1. get left over product from name brands

2. mark up 150%

3. Sell at 30% discount

4. increase discount when buyer purchases multiple items

5. kohl’s cash rewards for more discounts

Jusy pay full ticket at Macy’s

Would you like to save an extra 20% by signing up for a Kohl's card?

and saving 60%

I got to hand it to places like them and Kohl's. It's hilarious that everything in the store has some kind of discount when they are just really getting things at wholesale and marking up, but then making it seem like it's some crazy savings. Smart tactic.

This reminds me of video games now in the micro transaction climate.  A game will say you save 90% if you buy their virtual currency for the game.  It's all fake money, but hey, you will save 90% if you give them real money.  We got a new item.  It's 75% off.  We just made up the price, but it's 75% off.

It's actually kind of insulting.  Just say it's $9.99 like how it is every time you offer it.  Don't say it normally is $49.99 but you get it for 81% off and $9.99.

My wife bought in. Their whole model is to present a good deal through deceptive and confusing discount criteria.

In that case, would you be interested in the Kohl's Platium Club? It's only slightly more and you have access to our club room. Join today and we'll give you $20 Kohl's cash, redeemable on a maximum pre-Kohls Cash purchase of $5 on June 2nd from 3-4 AM EST, in store only.

There was a Kohl’s in San Gabriel by the Northwoods Inn. They closed their doors.

dang, now I want garlic cheese bread and a baked potato.

That sucks, because they closed the original boat to make room for that monstrosity.  That place was great.  Family style dining.  Big screens to watch the game.  Half a fried chicken with salad that had a blu cheese ranch dressing.  That garlic cheese bread.  And pints of beer for $3, $1.50 if you got old milwaulkee.

just to be clear, the Kohl's closed, not Northwoods Inn. The restaurant is still open, the waiters still walk around wearing a leather tool belt, and you can still get the root beer barrel candies at the exit.

Oh, so you never went there when the boat was where Kohl was?  There used to be three restaurants there.  Northwoods was the higher end.  Then the midranged.  Then the boat was the low end.   Boat was the best of the group.  Then they f'd it up, tore it down, put up Kohl's.  An made the midranged the new boat.

Went there a couple of times before Kohl’s was put in but don’t remember what structure it replaced. I remember the small retail area at the back end of the parking lot with a few shops. There was (I think) a gun shop and an army surplus store.
