Someone who drinks is in more danger than someone who doesn't.  Same with smoking.

Oh for sure - it not working as protection is absolutely not an argument against having guns. I just often hear protection trotted out as a justification to protect the 2nd amendment, and I'm not sure that that specific logic actually holds.
