Cabrera is 34 in 2017.   Yes he could hit until age 39-40, like Ortiz did.   He could also begin to decline very soon, because of the weight issue.

Offense happy Minute Maid Park would be very inviting for 81 games as would Arlington for 9-10 games, but he also would be playing 9-10 games each yearly in pitching friendly Angel Stadium, Safeco Field, and O.Com Stadium.

Trades talks between Dodgers and Tigers for Verlander.

What's going on with the Tigers?

From what I have read, anyone making major bucks is available. My guess is that they took a look at what the Indians did in the same division for a lot less cost. The Tigers had the fourth-highest payroll in the game (behind only the Dodgers, Yankees and Red Sox in that order), but they finished eight games behind the Indians, who had a payroll of about $91M less.

I love baseball ... Colon has been in decline for over ten years.

Uh, he's practically been the opposite. He hasn't had a bad season in the last decade. His 2016 was better than his 2015.

'06-'07: 5.90 ERA, 1.56 WHIP in 155 IP
'08-'16: 3.67 ERA, 1.23 WHIP in 1200 IP

Since turning 40, in four seasons he has thrown 779 IP of 3.59 ERA ball with a 1.21 WHIP.

the last 3 is mainly due to pitching in CitiField. His numbers there were much better than they were on the road.

but.... he's been so much better than I ever thought he would be at this stage in his career. I dig Bart
