2017 Draft Pick Standings

Might as well.

1. Atlanta Braves

2. Tampa Bay Rays 3 gb

3. Minnesota Twins 3 gb

4. Arizona Diamondbacks 4.5 gb

5. Cincinnati Reds 5 gb

6. LA Angels 5.5 gb

7. San Diego Padres 6.5 gb

8. Milwaukee Brewers 8 gb

9. Oakland Athletics 8 gb

10. Philadelphia Phillies 10.5 gb

So as you can see, the Angels have a very strong chance at a top 10 picks, a legit shot at #2, and a distant but possible chance a #1.

I like this thread. Its fun to look at that and imagine its a power ranking, and were almost tied for 5th

Historically the #6 pick has been somewhat successful in producing players that have reached the major league level for at least a cup of coffee.

Since 2013 there have only been 10 players that haven't reached the majors.

Notable #6 picks

2012 Albert Almora promoted to the Cubs this season.

2011 Anthony Rendon of the Nationals

2009 Zach Wheeler

2007 Ross Detwiler

2006 Andrew Miller

2002 Zach Greinke

1992 Derek Jeter

1986 Gary Sheffield

1985 Barry Bonds

1982 Spike Owen

1981 Kevin McReynolds

1980 Darnell Coles

1979 Andy Van Slyke

1977 Terry Kennedy

1976 Ken Landreaux

1973 Johnny LeMaster

1967 John Mayberry

1966 Tom Grieve

And the first ever #6 draft in major league history...

Ok, not that Rick James but some guy drafted by the Cubs and only pitched in 4.2 innings before being dumped.

Last time this team played this bad, they got outscored 39-65 during a 9 game losing streak and Terry Collins resigned in tears. This stretch has them outscored 27-65 and Mike Scioscia goes home and sleeps like a baby.

That 1999 team had a good line up.  Position by position the only player you take from the 2016 team would be Trout and possibly Albert at DH.  I guess you could make an argument for Simmons over Disar.  Opening day 1999 saw Todd Green start the season at DH.  Darin Erstad played more games in left field than anyone else.  Erstad also played in more games at 1st base than anyone else, I thought that was strange.

The team Collins lead had Jim Edmonds, Darin Erstad, Tim Salmon, Troy Glaus, Garret Anderson, Mo Vaughn on it....  All of them all star caliber players in their prime and the pitching staff had an ERA+ of 101.   The 2016 team...  No so much,

Good talk.

Hell just tank all of them.  5.5 games can easily be made up.  Thanks we can get a lottery pick and select the next LeBron James.

Woops wrong sport

They'll somehow fuck it up and get to 11 sign a free agent and lose the pick or fail to sign him due to being cheap

No, bad is bad, and this team is bad.  Also, you pretend Arte is going to spend money, that seems to be in the past.

Yeah, it would be even worse if they follow up this disastrous season by spending all of that freed up money in the offseason on FA's in this upcoming garbage market. They need pitching and the SP class is one of the worst its been in years. You're looking at a bunch of reclamation projects who you sign to a cheap 1 yr deal and hope to catch lightning in a bottle with one of them
