The Hat

Just went there a few weeks ago, forgot how good it is there.  For those that don't know, it's a restaurant that specializes in pastrami. Anybody else like eating there?

I rate all other pastrami sandwiches to The Hat. The good thing is I have two within 15 minutes of the house, so I can have it pretty much whenever I'd like.  It's the INO of pastrami.

The Fontana/Rancho Cucamonga is about 40 minutes from me. I get there about once a month. My mother-in-law is friends with one of the owners so we get deals sometimes.

I can't tell if this is a serious thread or not. That old lunch thread we had on the old board was basically The Hat pornography. There was even a board inside joke that was around for a while about The Hat that people used to drop.

I grew up a couple minutes away from The Hat in Temple City.  Always one of my favorite places.

I grew up near the original located on the corner of Valley and Garfield in Alhambra. My wife's grandmother used to work there in the 50's.

There was another burger joint on the border of Alhambra and El Sereno called "Tops Jr" that was owned by Greeks.  They were also really good back in the day.  Greeks always have good burger joints.

I miss the Hat a hell of a lot more than In-N-Out. I can make a great burger easily but can't come close to a Hat pastrami sandwich or even the pastrami topped chilli cheese fries.

I'm trying to stay under 300 pounds so it's tough to eat there more than once per year.

It's easy to keep the wieght off if you walk to the Rancho location in July, from San Dimas.

I went there a few weeks ago.  I don't know if it's because I haven't been there in a while.  But I really thought their pastrami sandwiches were smaller.  It just seemed like the meat was piled on like usual.  But the bun was 2/3 of what it usually was.  I usually struggle with half of one.  And save the other half for a nice big lunch.  But this time, I was thinking of eating the other half.  And the next day when I had it for lunch, it still didn't seem like much.

It didn't get smaller, your belly just got bigger.

Due to geographical reasons I have never had the pleasure.

When I feel the need for pastrami I usually go to Tommy Pastrami on Harbor Bl. in Santa Ana.

I stopped going there (Brea). As others have mentioned, the portions have become incredibly small. They used to stuff those things with pastrami, but not anymore.
