I think the Angels see him as a quick riser through the minors who can play LF.  Hard out which will play nice with Trouty.  Dude has a lot of pop in that bat and sees a lot of pitches, definitely a very dangerous hitter.

Not a horrible pick, but defnitely could've done better.

This fits into my recent article on why the Angels should retool for 2018. Bringing in a bat like this that can potentially be on the team either at catcher or a corner OF spot (LF?) would be a move towards contention a year and a half from now if he can develop fast enough.

for what it's worth, here's Cron's college numbers.

2009: .337/.380/.557 .937 OPS

2010: .431/.493/.817 1.310 OPS

2011: .434/.517/.803 1.320 OPS

 

Cron did play college ball at home at a 4,400 foot altitude (Utah).

Pretty good hitting environment
