Mattingly, Dodgers part ways

Terry Collins is in the World Series

Although it seems he has learned a lot since his days in Anaheim, it goes to show how important field managers are. Probably less than 15-20 players?

collins has managed some 1600+ games, the longest tenure, iirc, of anyone currently without getting to the series. good for him.

How many of the nutswingers will follow if MS does go to LA?? (the real LA, not the LA that isn't in LA)

Sciosciawins.com?

Weren't you hanging on Maddon's balls for the last 10 years or more? I guess those that think one guy can make a diffence is of interest no matter where he lands, like Dipoto or Black, or even Roenicke. Maybe even the most sucessful manager in Angels history.

Try not to be too butthurt all the time.

The way seenoevil and homebrewer post you would think they both had drinks together with Scioscia and Bill Cosby and woke up a decade later with regrets. So very butthurt.

I think we should trade Homebrewer to the Cubs so he can reunite with his one true love, Joe Maddon while sending seenoevil to Seattle where can watch Dipoto's parking spot to make sure no one but Jerry (not even his wife) uses it. That should make them happy.

In return we get Cez or an equivilant gay guy from the Mariners and some decent hot dogs from Chicago.

Now if we can only get Montreal to field an expansion team... Claude, you still here?

:-)

People should watch all of the in game mistakes their favorite other team is making instead of the non stop tunnel vision.

It is not as though I am unaware or immune to what the Angels fail at but often it is more execution rather than directions. Scioscia is always trying to squeeze that last 10% more out of the players. I think his biggest failure is not accepting that a few (last season many) of his players just don't have the talent but keeps pushing.

He had rosters with multi talented players that could think on their feet and was sucessful. The last few years he has had Trout and the shell of Albert to work with.

As exciting as Calhoun can be he can also be an over achiever type personality with a slightly below that ability level. Lots of over swings, plenty of over playing a ball in the air (although that improved this season) along with some less than inteligent base running but at least he can throw people out (looking at you Trout). But he is the end of the young player talent line Scioscia can turn to.

Go down the roster and Gia (who I like) is a klutz in the field and can't hit when in the top half of the order. Aybar is a complete loose cannon but can at least bunt. Freese is a stiff and can't pull his hands out of the way on an inside pitch. There wasn't anyone in left field the entire season. Ianetta was worse than Mathis making Perez seem more valuable than his true talent level. The best the bench could offer was CJ Cron and even he was demoted to pull his head out of his ass. The rest of the bench was worthless.

So in terms of real talent Scioscia had two players in Trout and streaky Pujols and that is what he had to wage war with. The rest were fringe with some skills on defense and offense like Calhoun, Aybar stabilizing SS on defense, Giavotella destabilizing defense up the middle but providing a clutch late inning hit now and then but the rest were pretty one dimensional or just plain replaceable.

The Angels stayed in contention with that mess and an underwhelming pitching staff with no solid middle relief all the way to the final game. That was all Scioscia because the talent wasn't there at all.

"but at least he can throw people out (looking at you Trout)."

To be fair, Trout has worked on strengthening his throwing arm and upped his put-outs to 7 this season.  There was an article on him and Calhoun building their arm strength through throwing drills/long toss.

I like how the "NEW" Front Office of the Doggs are like naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah we don't want Tommy Lasorda....excuse us, we mean Mike Scioscia managing our team.......We're cool, we'll take a young hip dude that understands advanced metrics and uses scouting reports....

... to work with $300 million worth of under performing players.

^^^ @ Eric next year it will be closer to $200M as they were paying a boatload of contracts that weren't there like we do!!!!!

Kemp and others....In actuality the contract totals of players that were playing for the Doggs was around 210M. They were carrying like 89M of dead contract money.    (insert Carl Crawford joke here)...

The Dodgers only have 9 guys on the books next season accounting for over $175 million in payroll. They are going way over the cap regardless just to field 16 more players plus factoring in a 40 man roster.
