Thanks, @Jobu. Others recommended Haleakala also, but we don't feel all that inspired to get up that early. We won't have a car until Friday when my brother gets here, nor do we drink alcohol, but I've had p,entry of good meals at brewing houses. We'll give it a look. Thanks for the recommendation.

Can't vouch for the food (if there is any). You can use Uber to get around fairly affordably.

So I have a work trip that came up unexpectedly in mid-September but before I actually have to work the wife and I are planning to go to Dublin where we'll have 3 full days before heading to London.  Any recommendations?  I've never been but it's definitely somewhere I've always wanted to go.  I want to see as much as I can but I also want to get to relax and enjoy it as opposed to having something planned every minute of every day.  So I guess the question is - to those of you that have been to Dublin what are the things you'd do in a 3 day trip that wouldn't leave you dead tired from running around all day?

Thanks.

Depends. Im weird, so when i travel, i go crazy and try to fit in as much as possible. (I sleep enough when im home, i dont want to waste time somewhere i may never be again by sitting around).

Rent a car and get out of dublin. Dublin is a blast! But, get out of town at least a day to see the country...it lives up to the hype.

Head north to coast. Great photos. Belfast is worth it...its beat up, but to see it is worth it (to me...but again, im weird).

Didn't see the Ireland. If you can get to west coast. Doolin, cliffs of mine, dingle, ring of Kerry. Might be ambitious for a 3 day trip. Galway might be in reach. Find a pub that has live music and enjoy

Temple bar bar area is an Irish version of bourbon street at this point. I wouldn't waste my time. I would go to Guinness factory and get a pint from the source.

I was amazed at all the bikers riding downhill on that twisty road up Haleakala, and saddened by all the crosses on the side of the road.

Go diving tank! Way better than doing it here in california

The resort offers a free diving clinic and I'm doing that Wednesday morning. The company that does this also offers an opportunity to go on a dive. If it isn't stupidly expensive, I just might go. Won't know until the clinic is finished.

next Monday we're going snorkeling and I'm going to do snuba. Looking forward to it, especially since my daughter will be with us us, and she didn't get to snorkel during her senior trip back in March. Even my wife is going to give it a shot.

You guys will have a blast! Maui is where everyone keeps getting bit by tiger sharks, too. So bring a camera.

Water is so clear in Hawaii, that snorkeling is even worth it.  Wasn't certified when I last went to Hawaii, but if you have a chance to scuba there, don't pass it up.

Might be my one chance at a viral video.

The problem is, and im sure red will agree, most people are just too lazy to do what they need to take good shots. Too lazy to move closer, wait for better lighting, etc.

So make sure you go the extra step. Cut small lacerations to your wrists and ankles before you get in the water. Then swim mostly at the surface, as violent and splashy as possible. Maybe write "tiger sharks are wannabe bull sharks" on your chest.

Then, make sure your shutter speed and aperature is set right, and post the pics so we can like them!

exactly!

my biggest challenge is the best photograph time really gets in the way of best drinking time (sunset/dusk) or is a challenge because of the previous night's drinking (sunrise)

Do you get way more creative at drinking time, though?

"I could probably get a better pic of that sunset from the roof."

Anyone here been to new zealand? Ive been wanting to go for awhile now. No timeline when, but ive only heard good things

It is absolutely gorgeous, especially the South Island...and so much variety in such a small package. You can go from rainforest covered fjords, to alpine passes/glaciers and end up on a coastline similar to Northern California in less than a day...while passing alpine lakes and wine country in the process.

Ireland and New Zealand were the two countries that made me decide to take up photography. I visited both of those places (along with a few other) during a single year and came back up some crappy snapshots...decided I would get a real camera and learn how to use it.

Nice! Thats kind of what happened to me. I figured all these places ive seen, and i kept just taking pics with my phone. You go back a couple of years, and see how bad phone pics were "back then", and decided i needed a real camera. (Still dont know how to use it, haha).

Am definetely gonna have to see new zealand. All the pics i see online are insane. And every kiwi ive ever come accross has been cool as hell.

Yes, it is beautiful.  The most beautiful women I have ever seen as well.  Lots of women with dark hair and light eyes.  I did some bungi jumping there, as well as golf.  We did a river jet boat thing that was incredible.  There is a small casino that we gambled at.  Good amount of family owned restaurants that were incredible.  If you aren't into women, well the sheep outnumber the people 6-1, so you have tha going for you.  Where stayed in Queensland, or just outside at a golf resort.
