Saw an interview with a girl that was in the theater when it happened. They interviewed her and her dad and a few things I found kind of amusing. One was that they were talking about their pride in living in Lafayette (sounded like a nice city) and she made sure to point out that they all stick together and have been ever since their ancestors moved there after getting kicked out of Nova Scotia. Secondly her dad made sure to point out that the shooter was NOT from Lafayette, but of course from neighboring Alabama. I chuckled when he said that.

This guy was a gigantic mess. He posted a swastika banner on his bar after he lost his liquor license. He lauded Adolf Hitler for his pragmatism, and praised Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke and the Westboro Baptist Church, among others. When he was evicted from his house in Phenix City, AL, he retaliated by returning to vandalize the house. He poured concrete down the drains and tampered with the natural gas lines in an effort to make the house explode. He was also arrested on arson charges in 1980 for allegedly hiring a man to set fire to the office of a lawyer who represented pornographic movie theaters.

 

His brother said that he saw him about a month ago, the first time he had contact with him in about ten years. He asked for some money to meet basic living expenses, then he disappeared again.
