Shoplifters targeted store during 'Shop with a Cop' event

Shoplifters targeted store during 'Shop with a Cop' event

Criminal masterminds they are not.

Two Michigan women have been accused of stealing from a Target store that was filled with police at the time for a "Shop with a Cop" event.

Keiana Wilson, 40, of Burton, Mich. and Dana Johnson, 18, of Flint, Mich., were arrested on “felony retail fraud charges,” WXYZ reported.

On Wednesday, the Bloomfield Township Police Department along with Sylvan Lake, Keego Harbor and Orchard Lake police departments hosted a “Shop with a Cop” event at a Target in Bloomfield Township. Some 15 officers were at the store helping disadvantaged children choose a gift for their family members when the two women were seen by the store’s security officers loading a cart filled with $1,900 worth of electronics, the Detroit Free Press reported.

The women allegedly walked out of the store with the cart without paying but did not make it too far.

"The loss prevention (officers) actually apprehended them, then they asked for police assistance," Sylvan Lake Police Sgt. Michael Mondeau said. "The police officers were only about 20 feet away when they tried to walk out of the store."

Bloomfield Township Police Sgt. Dan Brown said the women were aware the officers were at the store at the time because Johnson complimented an officer on their generosity.

Minnesota boy, 11, hailed a hero after saving man twice his size from drowning in pool

An 11-year-old Minnesota boy was hailed a hero after he saved a man from drowning in an apartment building pool on Sunday.

Advaik Nandikotkur, 11, of Eagan, was at his residence's indoor pool when he saw a man at the bottom of it, FOX 9 reported. The 34-year-old man, from Chicago, was visiting family at the building.

Nandikotkur, who took swimming lessons three years ago, was the only one nearby who knew how to swim. He jumped in and led the man, who outweighed him by at least 100 pounds, up to safety.

"Mom told me to jump in. I said, 'He's probably too heavy,' but I jumped in anyway," Nandikotkur told FOX 9.

After the man was out of the pool, the boy’s uncle performed CPR on him as they waited for police to arrive. The man was transported to a hospital and released a few hours later.

Boy survives injury after bolt pierces skull

A 5-year-old boy somehow escaped a severe brain injury after a water pump explosion caused a metal bolt to pierce his skull, missing his brain by just millimeters. Chhabila Jumar, of Kathariya, India, was reportedly playing in a field near the broken pump while it was being repaired, according to SWNS.

At some point, the pump’s fan belt snapped and sent fragments flying through the air, including the bolt that struck the boy in the head.

It took 90 minutes for surgeons to remove the bolt from 5-year-old Chhabila Kumar's head.

Woman bitten by 5-foot snake while on the toilet

An Australian woman received quite a shock Tuesday when she was sitting on the toilet and felt some pain which turned out to be a snake bite.

Helen Richards, 59, was at a relative’s home in Brisbane when she was bitten by the five-foot carpet python. Richards detailed the incident after feeling a “sharp tap.”

"I jumped up with my pants down and turned around to see what looked like a longneck turtle receding back into the bowl," Richards told the Courier Mail.

A pooch born with half a spine is just one of 30 dogs in the world living with the condition.

A pooch born with half a spine is just one of 30 dogs in the world living with the condition.

Cooper, a two-year-old American foxhound, lives with short spine syndrome, a genetic condition caused by inbreeding where vertebrae are fused together and compressed.

The pup was rescued by animal control officers in summer 2017, close to a suspected puppy farm in Halifax, Virginia.

Animal control officers believe that the two-month-old pup was abandoned because of his birth defect.

Cooper was saved by Secondhand Hounds, a shelter in Minnetonka, Minnesota, who treated the neglected dog for ear mites, worms and a hernia.

The brave pooch was eventually adopted by Elly Keegan, 32, and her husband Andy, 33, who live with their dogs Skylar, 13, Waylon, three, and Tuva, four.

Keegan described Cooper as “the happiest dog” even though he struggles with mobility, and cannot walk on hard surfaces.

"The condition means that Cooper has a screwing and corkscrewing of his spine," she explained.

“It is fused in two places - on his neck and on his rear. He looks like he has no neck and to look behind him he has to turn his whole body.”
