Bunting has a place in the game....I just think it's stupid when the decision ends up taking the bat out of Trout's hands.

Angels had a nice lead in the game ... insurance runs. If the team revolved around just Trout ... We won't win many games, would we? Edited by Troll Daddy

Bunting is great.

During Angel games, sometimes I think the best thing they could possibly do in some situations is bunt. Of course they don't, then wait for the predictable bunt and get screwed.

However what drives me up the wall, is some of these guys don't seem to know how to lay down a bunt at all. That is what disappoints me. IMO bunting is one of the EASIEST things to do in baseball. You know you're going to bunt...look at the top half of the baseball, and drive that f****r into the ground.

When I see pop-up bunts at the Major League level, it astounds me. As far as I'm concerned bunting is baseball 101, and when we have crappy bunts, especially in very needed situations, I don't understand how these guys seem to be clueless as far as what they need to do.

Gene Mauch gave the best answer to this topic. The Angels led the league in sacrifice bunts by a wide margin in 1982. Someone asked Mauch why he was such a bunt-happy manager. He said that it was a misunderstanding. His philosophy was only to bunt when facing a top notch pitcher. Get that run across because chances are you aren't getting a big inning off of the other team's 1 or 2 starter. But if it was a 3, 4 or 5 starter, let er rip. And it should be noted that Mauch had the team to pull it off. Veterans at every position. Bob Boone and Tim Foli were masters at it.

Of the 30 teams in baseball the Angels ranked 24th in bunts. They executed the sacrifice only 26 times the entire season.

26 times a season people have the opportunity to lose their shit over a common place event in baseball.

I love how this was just glossed over. Everyone hates Mike managing by feel, however you show the stat that shows people hear "feel" we bunt too much. Hypocrites.
