During the Egypt revolution I read that there were people standing at the doors of Cairo's top museums preventing looters from destroying stuff saying along the lines of, "this is our history, leave it alone."

 

saw some video of these morons using sledge hammers and saws to destroy statutes. one comment from a viewer said "does being an islamic fundamentalist mean you no longer have any appreciation of history?"

 

seems to me that destroying those treasures serves no purpose other than to infuriate people.

In that Guardian article Lawrence posted, an ISIS member justified destroying the priceless historical artifacts saying that they are just pagan pieces. So what we all think are priceless historical artifacts, they are destroying as a religious justification. They've been doing that for over 1,000 years now.
