if this is true it becomes the largest free agent contract the padres have ever signed. want to have your mind blown? the largest FA contract the padres have ever given was to joquin benoit for 2 year and 15.5 million. think about that shit.

The largest contract the Padres have ever handed out is three-year, $52 million deal they gave Jake Peavy, but they traded him and paid little of it.

I'm glad to pass on that. If not Moncada, use some of that money towards getting Olivera and Ibanez.

Doesn't appear we're in the mix for Moncada, don't know about the other Cubans....Really, if you look at it, we haven't done much of anything on the FA market since the Hamilton signing.  I guess we threw a good offer at Garza last winter but, other than that, it's pretty much been Joe Smith and Baldoquin, who I guess is a FA of sorts....I understand that Trout got a huge payday and Street added to the payroll...I also understand the salary cap issue but why not go aggresively after some of these other Cuban guys?  Seems a way around the salary cap and waiting on drafted guys to develop....If it's all about the Hamilton, Wilson and Pujols contracts, then DiPoto is going to have to be Billy Beane and make more trades, a la Trumbo and Howie, to stay competitive...
