Sony Cancels The Interview

There are currently no US prisoners in Korea. I didn't ask you if North Korea kills and tortures prisoners, everybody knows that. They are not stupid enough to kill a US prisoner, that's why they never kill US prisoners.

Finally. He had been rambling on for pages about US hostages currently in North Korea. They don't exist.

Nobody is dictating what we create. A group of companies with the sole purpose of monetizing art decided that this wasn't worth the effort to monetize.

I know you have this anti-capitalism thing going so I am going to give your premise to you..................  Regardless of the base reason the bottom line is that when artists yield to threats to stop them from creating something speech is being limited.

I'm sure they'll pass that on to you in increased monetization of future releases. Not to mention the tax write off.

The point is, that Sony decided not to release the film after the top five theater chains told them they wouldn't release it on Christmas based on threats that have yet to be substantiated. The only "monetization" decision they made was to not release the film based on an unknown number of lawsuits they may or may not actually receive as a result of threats that may or may not ever be carried out.

The artists created the art. That it wasn't released was purely a business decision. How many projects do you figure have been squashed to keep the Muslims, or any other religious group, from doing this or worse? Rogan and Franco can always buy it back and release it themselves.

So I guess in the end the sellouts of the SCOTUS were correct that money equals speech.

The artists wont create the art next time if nobody will buy it.

Anyone who wouldn't have seen this movie because of the so-called terror threats is overly cautious. North Korea has a return address. They would have been flat out stupid to follow through on that promise.

But it's not the North Koreans I would be worried about.  It would be the millions of nut jobs already in the U.S., and it only takes one or two of them that feel that they want to make a point.

Yep...one of those shot up a theater here in Aurora a couple years ago (and the 9000 or so jury summons for his trial went out last week).

Eh, that can happen in any theater. Plus I don't think there are many North Korea sympathizers here. We're much more likely to see an ISIS supporter go to that extreme.
