Gas Prices

Downtown LA on Saturday, before the overnight spike was $5.50, granted, it's a usually high Chevron by Olvera street.

Meanwhile Phillipe's was running a special, buy two beef dips, double dips with extra mustard, get lots of gas for free.

I took the offer. Deliciious.

Went to get gas on Saturday in my town and the Cheveron was at $4.50. Thought it was a mistake. Ended up driving down to Hollywood, had to gas up on Sunset and that gas station was at $4.50. A couple of days ago it was a dollar difference. I couldn't believe it.

what i don't understand is why our prices are so much higher (aside from all of the taxes) than a state like kansas, which has zero refineries and has to truck in their gas from great distance, while our transportation costs are absolutely minimal.

No petroleum pipelines from out of state sources.

California's gas taxes are (per gallon) 25 cents more expensive.

The tree huggers have mandated that California use a special blend of gasoline not used in other states.

Refineries are old.

Those are a few of the reasons.

More expensive summer fuel blends mandated by law, to control emissions.

Refinery fire in February in Torrance, and refinery still not operating five months later.

New California gas tax imposed after cap-and-trade scheme became law in January. It's supposed to fight global warming, doncha know.

The amount of the tax is not revealed, but estimates range from 50 cents to a couple of dollars eventually. Thank you, California Air Resources Board!

And finally, for some reason there will be no more deliveries of gasoline from out of state. Why that's the case, I have no idea. With refineries down for "planned maintenance" and one refinery out of action, gasoline supplies in southern California are suddenly very scarce.

Welcome to the Democratic People's Republic of California. Years of insane idealism and mismanagement by dictatorial socialist democrats.
