Pitching Matchups vs Seattle

Why Santiago has the exact same ERA as Skaggs except he strikes out batters at a much greater rate.

Santiago with a few adjustments can be a dominant starter.

His ability to miss bats is second in the starting rotation next to Garrett.

Agreed. Kid still needs some time to figure it out, the ceiling is too high

Interesting that Skaggs is in the #3 starter spot now. Is this official?

Makes sense. Who else would you have there? Wilson is still going to be on the DL for the series. So it's either between Skaggs, Santiago and Shoemaker. Despite Shoemaker's success, I don't see him viewed as a mainstay in the rotation.

I actually think it's pretty cool. Good for Skaggs!

At the Big A.  Throw everything that you "think you know" about the M's rotation out the door.

Not it our house.

Angels will take at least 2 of 3.

Very possible that the M's "road warrior ways" will catch up to them in the second half . . .

  • 27-18 on the road
  • 24-26 at home

and, specifically vs the Halos: 3-0 on the road, 3-3 at home .

Should be a great series :)

Iwakuma and Felix I agree but Young is not very good.

He has just been very lucky.

HIs xFIP shows him at 5.37.

Felix is on another level this season.

Kuma needs to keep his consistency up now that he shook off his rough starts.

Chris Young has always outperformed his saber stats. Is he a 3.15 ERA pitcher? No. Is he a near 6 ERA pitcher? I don't think so. He has a knack for inducing weak contact on fly balls ... but yes sometimes he does give up some bomb HRs.

Should be interesting series. As an M's fan I'm hoping Ackley is out of the line-up and we have Marlon Byrd or Josh Willingham in his place by the time Friday comes.

What happened to Ackley? Dude showed some much potential. is he just another victim of Safeco?

Really don't know. I think when he struggled in his first full season ... he tried to change too much about his batting stance / swing that it just completely ****ed him up. He hasn't regained his high prospect status and I think it killed his confidence in himself.  Just completely in his own head at this point.

He should be fine in Safeco. Was never really going to be a big power guy .... but was expected to have gap power and the ability to hit to all fields. Just hasn't shown.

I hope Brad Miller isn't going down the same path.

I know that it is silly to talk about how our rotation sets up for the end of the regular season and the possible wildcard, but right now going with a five man rotation we would pitch Weaver on Friday, Richards on Saturday and Skaggs on Sunday to end the regular season at Seattle (with the same rotation from Seattle as posted above).  With the wild card game on Tuesday then Weaver/Iwakuma would be the matchup.  It should be a wild end to the season with three against Oakland and three against Seattle (both on the road) wrapping things up.  With the division race being so close, I do not know how we can play with our rotation too much and it is hard to see us having a four or five game lead on Oakland by that point.
