Angels Claim Brooks Raley From Twins

Recommended Posts

Moves like this make me seriously question the Angels organization.

Raley is all but guaranteed to blow a game with his horrendous statistics.

This team is in no position to experiment with "waste bin" relievers considering how tight the AL West race is.

Every loss counts, and guys like Raley, Wall (RIP), et al. are going to make this team lose close games.

We claimed him.  Doesn't mean he's getting a call to the majors.

He only turned reliever this season so his previous years stats were as a starter which makes a difference. That being said he looks like additional Burnett insurance/Boshers replacement who will specialize against LHH.

decent lefty lefty splits.  good k rate as a reliever and greater than 9/gm vs. lefties.  Also lower bb rate vs. lefties.  most likely just AAA depth

So he's already better than Maronde.

Maronde serves no purpose at all -- I don't get why he's still around.  Sure his ERA wasn't awful before last night but everyone had an OPS allowed near or above 1.000 even before his most recent meltdown.  Dude has an WHIP near 3.00 and is still in the majors.

Maronde is just so broken.  They convert him to a reliever and he loses velocity and can't find the zone.  Maybe the conversion had nothing to do with it, but it sure seems coincidental.  He was throwing 93-94mph with a 6% walk rate.

Thank god they made the right choice with Richards to turn him back into a starter.
