Game of Thrones

I really enjoyed last night's episode.

It might not have moved too far along from a plot standpoint but it did move. And it had nearly all of my favorite characters. I enjoyed the return of Bron, grandma Tyrell being sassy, and Blackfish being all old and chappy. I also really liked the new characters they added. Lady Mormont was feisty and Ian McShane's character fit in seamlessly. Of my favorite characters, only Tyrion and Varys were missing. But there were plenty of barbs even without them.

I thought the best line of the show was just before that, "So you've had a few bad years" and Theon's reaction to it.

This is true.  But I can't use that line on my wife.

I also liked "There's not an ass like that on the Iron Islands"

I really enjoyed the episode. Set up some good stuff for the finish. I love the pacing this season too. If it were any other season Jaime would just be on the outskirts of Kings Landing and Jon and Sansa would just be closing the gate at Castle Black.

I think it's to LF, Nate. It has to be. She was an idiot for turning those men down. What will be interesting to see is: what LF will do (whether he helps Sansa or spurns her, again).

I would agree that it's LF.

It also looks like the Brienne vs Kingslayer may come to fruition.

Another theory that I've read and liked is:

Spoiler

Jaimie with his army and Brienne in tow (possibly with Blackfish the remaining Tullys) march to Winterfell to help Jon and Sansa. This is assuming Jaimie finds out that Sansa is still alive through Brienne. He took an oath to protect her back in the day, and this would be a bit of redemption for his character.  In the books he has a redemption arc in which he pretty much gets over Cersei's shit and disobeys her/doesn't come to her aid.

I don't think it's laughable.  If you think about professional sports or boxing/MMA you can't always say that because A beat B who beat C that A can beat C.  Some teams or people just match up better or pose different problems for opponents.  The Mountain lost a joust tournament when his opponent used a mare that was in heat which made the Mountain's horse act up.  He would have been killed by the viper had the viper just finished the job during their duel but he was focused on revenge and got too close.  The Mountain is a skilled no doubt but he relies on strength as much as anything whereas there are smarter and more skilled fighters.  I think the hound you see now is different than the drunk more often than not one you saw in King's Landing and he's wanted a shot at his brother since they were kids.

At some point everyone has to turn their attention to what Ser Davos said, right?  That the dead are coming and to put aside the petty squabbles?

Am I the only one that thinks its laughable that Brienne took down the Hound and we could possibly see the Hound take down the Mountain?

I was going to post the Hound and all the fucking chickens and in doing research I went down a GOT meme rabbithole.  I can't can't say I wish I hadn't spent that time

I'm back and forth on this one. I like the faster pace but I feel like we've lost a lot of character development this season. Each episode has focused on moving the plot forward rather than moving the characters forward. I think without the books to fall back on D&D are skipping through a lot of low key great moments between characters that were the heart of the first 5 seasons. There is just so much going on right now that it's those quieter moments that are getting left out, and this will only become more pronounced with less episodes for the final 2 seasons.

Season 6 has felt a lot more like regular tv. Still significantly better than season 5 up to this point, but not on par with 1-4, imo.

Wait, I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but the "On the next GOT" thing they showed it made it look like Sansa wrote Brienne and she took the letter with her to Jaime? Make what you want about recruiting, Blackfish, etc. I thought she went to recruit and the scene they showed about Brienne and Jaime where he says he loves his sister and would do anything was kind of him turning her down (as the scenes like to go in the opposite direction)

Although, what's presented makes sense too.

Is Lady Stoneheart finally coming?  It seems to be pointing that way.

Spoiler

I've been thinking about that for a while, particularly when the Riverlands were mentioned in multiple episodes. This theory is gaining traction: https://www.romper.com/p/will-arya-become-lady-stoneheart-on-game-of-thrones-theres-a-very-good-chance-11889

Not sure how I feel about that, but it could be an interesting plot twist.

I missed that, I couldn't imagine the Lannister army helping to take the north for the Starks.

I don't remember too well what happened with Jaime and Brienne when she escorted him, or was suppose to. I don't know if there were similar favors down the road shit acknowledged.

My initial thought process with how the trailer for next week looked was that Sansa wrote Brienne, and maybe on her own free will, Brienne went looking to cash in a favor for saving Jaime (I thought there was something where she saved him and he owes her).....Lannisters and their debts, etc.

But yeah, because they showed Brienne with the note in her hand and also showed her meeting/talking with Jaime it's not likely to happen with the way they splice the trailers to get you thinking one way before it isn't remotely close.

The way I understand it is that Sansa sent Brienne, with a note for Blackfish, to Riverrun. Sansa and Brienne had no idea that Jamie Lannister would be laying siege to the castle. Obviously, Jaime won't just let her into the castle with a note. Maybe he takes it from her if he finds it. Or maybe she hides it. Either way I'm sure she will get taken by Jaime and meet with him or just meet with him.

Sansa is operating under the assumption Jamie is in King's Landing and her letter she sent with Brienne reaches Blackfish. It wouldn't make sense that her new letter would be for either of them.

Am I wrong?

It makes sense if you look at Cersei having trail by combat. She picks Mountain...the Septon picks...the Hound.

Though I'm not sure how he gets from the Riverlands area (near Riverrun and Harrenhal) to King's Landing if that's going to happen this year.
