The Marlins are looking at Mark Trumbo

The state of Angel's baseball...trade a young MOTO power hitter with potential and bank on two old MOTO hitters with long term, large contracts and little/no potential.  Those ragging on Trumbo, hope you enjoy watching these old guys collect their huge paychecks.  Oh, yea, and a team managed by another long term, large contract guy.  How's that working out lately?

A guy with a .299 career OBP is not a MOTO hitter.

They are stuck with the guys with the huge paychecks.

For all the talk about Trumbo's potential, his 109 OPS+ last year was right there with Ianetta, and just a tick above Josh Hamilton at 108.  Albert Pujols has been written off and yet he managed a 116 OPS+ despite playing on one leg all year..   People are so enamored with Trumbo's ability to hit HRs that they seemingly ignore everything he doesn't do.

Trumbo's value isn't likely to get better as he gets older unless he improves significantly and that improvement may be offset by an increasing salary.

Trading Trumbo would be the best thing that ever happened to him. After his 2011 RoY-2 season he was tossed aside like Woody when Buzz Lightyear showed up on the scene.

Trumbo has played 3rd, 1st, RF, LF and DH since Pujols was signed so his confidence has to be rattled. He's officially the Angels bastard child. I hope he rakes wherever he goes.

Can't say I disagree with Hamiltown the Angels organization has done squat to make sure Trumbos confidence doesn't disappear for 2 months out of the season and it's frustrating as hell. IMO this all comes back to coaching and management and underscores their lack of ineptitude when it comes to getting these guys in positions where they're comfortable and have confidence in key situations and in big games. Shuffling him around the diamond to play a position for 2 games then taking the glove out of his hand to DH, all this stuff just leads to no consistency and that's exactly what we're getting from Trumbo.

It's actually amazing when watching the WS this year you could tell both Napoli and Lacky have such a different aura of confidence around them when they're on that team. It's something that comes from within and if its good enough it gets spread throughout the team and shows on the field.  I have no doubt another team will be able to tap into Trumbo in a way we haven't been able to while he's been on this team.
