AL MVP race update

Tigers have been up half a dozen games since May. How many meaningful games has Cabrera played in?

 

I'm guessing about 100

After last season, I don't care.  It's not the MVP award.  It should officially be changed to the writer's choice.  I know that's what it's always been, but most valuable should be synonymous with best player, that's what most people believe it is.  And that's not what it is.

Trout is Caucasian as is Chris Davis. Cabrera is Latino. I don't think that is changing anytime soon. No need for race updates.

Why? Because there are 2 shiny zeroes in them? Why not 199 and 99? What is so mathematically magical about having just one more hit and RBI? Because it feels good?

These east coast writers don't stay up to watch the Angels unless they are playing the team that they cover. Angels have played bad baseball and who wants to watch that. Remember these are the same writers two years ago that didn't have weaver in the top five on the ballot after he won 20 games. Two voters didn't have him top five in Cy Young voting. In order for Trout to win an MVP the Angels will have to win the division. The other players will have to slump or have a lot f bad press( wife beating or drunk driving). And will probably have to be in his contract year( so the yanks can sign the reigning MVP as a FA)

A whole host of folks are in the discussion for the 4th and 5th spots.

Only the first 3 (in whatever order) are a sure thing.

Davis, Cabrera, Trout and I don't think it will be that close........Trout will be a distant third.

 

Davis/ Cabrera will be closer if O's actually make playoffs........down to the last week here.

I have to check the standings more often -- didn't realize that as of right now, O's have fallen to 3.5 games off the wild card pace.

 

So the O's and the Rangers (again) are tanking down the stretch here.

 

Looks like Cleveland might sneak into the one game playoff round -- hope the Indians get there.

 

So, Cabrera perhaps your winner again this year.

 

I do think a player with a good season for a winning (Division title/ playoff team) trumps a player who has an excellent season for an also -ran team.

 

Last year, Trout had , arguably, the BEST rookie reason in MLB baseball stat-wise.........and he finished second in the MVP race.

 

Had Trout stolen that base that last game of the season last year (he got tossed out) he would have had 50 SBs to go along with his other record breaking stats........MVP plateau for sure...........he finished second.

 

He will finish third this year.

 

Davis and his 50 plus HRs and non-playoff team O's will finish second.

A little too casual for me, but not really.

 

If he made it as 4th/5th..I wouldn't be shocked..but I think all things considered (to this point at least) Donaldson and Pedroia have had better years

@Buster_ESPN: About Trout's MVP candidacy: I think this might be like Dawson in '87 and Ripken '91, when the team's record may not matter.
