Jack Clark: Pujols was a 'roider

Ironically, if Pujols were putting up his usual numbers, you kids would be defending him and saying Jack Clark is full of it. But because he's had a poor season, you want to question his character, too.

Well, ya. He just got a huge contract and then dropped off big time. Now that he has his money, it's not worth getting caught. Don't you think that's a little fishy?

also worth noting is that right around the time he started declining (even his last year in STL) and signed his mega contract with the Angels is the same time MLB started their more stringent testing and suspensions for PEDs.  Again, all just speculation, but it is fishy.

Not sure how to put this into sentence form but I'll try. Back before PEDs players would start their decline in their early 30's, around 33 or 34. That is about when the injuries would start to wear on them. So as we are seeing Pujols break down there is a lot of speculation that he is breaking down because he is no longer doing roids. In reality it could just be the natural regression due to age. I have no idea if he was a user, I just know that him breaking down now isn't an indication one way or another.

In all fairness, Pujols last season with the Cardinals was a down year for him.

Not sure about the NBA or NHL policies but the NFL has seemed to take a more hardline approach.  MLB was brought back to life after reeling from the previous lockout during the summer of 98 when Big Mac and Sosa were on PED's and chasing Maris.  As I said before in another thread I don't doubt that it was any less prevalent in the NFL but MLB took what seemed like a much weaker stance on the subject.  Regardless they at least seem to be cracking down now with the recent bans but even then they waited until after the ASB which seems like a PR move and not one out of necessity due to evidence but who knows.

That's a paragraph, not a sentence, but we get the idea.

That is the grand irony in it all.

Selig turned a blind eye to Sosa/Big Mac/Bonds, and now he is organizing witch hunts for the same things he turned the blind eye to.

I have a hard time trusting a rumor that is based on a guy who says he was told Pujols was using PEDs by someone else.  If that is all you got, I'm not buying it.  I'm not saying Pujols didn't ever use PEDs, but I am not going to convict the guy based on this type of rumor.

He better have some concrete evidence because at this point slandering a guys reputation with a steroid accusation is going to end up in court.

Read up on the following cases:  New York Times v. Sullivan and Curtis v. Butts.

Since Pujols is a public figure, in order to prove slander he must show actual malice or reckless disregard of the truth.  In other words, Clark doesn't need any proof.  Pujols has to have proof that Clark is lying or proof that Clark is willfully trying to harm Pujols.

Based on that article I do not see any thing that would meet the Sullivan test.
