Your favorite opening scene in a movie

Easy one for me. It has everything from the music to the tension and pace to the style. Just a great intro to a great movie. The setup and execution were top notch.

Same type of intensity for most heist/crime movies that have great opening scenes….most movies with a bank robbery story usually start off with a bang: Heat, The Town, Den of Thieves, Triple 9, etc.

Definitely Private Ryan.

This one set the movie up nicely also.

 As a sci fi geek, I loved this scene.  Because it just announced this is a new timeline in the first 10 minutes of the movie.

Oh, and as credits go.  I always loved this opening scene, and loved that they kept it for maverick.

This isn’t quite the “opening” scene but the first 45 mins of this Kubrick classic is just awesome.  Loved Full Metal Jacket.

Pixar's "Up" might not be my favorite, because it's so sad. But it's such a well-written sequence that uses no dialogue to convey an entire lifetime's worth of emotions.

The Dark Knight has an awesome opening scene. Guardians of the Galaxy is a lot of fun.

For a really bad movie, Austin Powers Goldmember has a great opening.  The only good thing about it.

But as far as popular picks go, “I believe in America.”

My sister was paranoid about that movie. I used to wait until she got into the bathtub and put the soundtrack on the living room stereo. Good times.

Since we lived in an area where shark fishing tournaments were held, it had particular relevance.

When it comes to porn, I've only watched the opening scenes. I don't see many reasons to finish the film.

I met R. Lee Ermey.  It was for a Veterans Day golf tournament at La Canada Flintridge CC.

One of the absolute, nicest guys in the world.  An awesome guy.

Also, Rocky 2. Opened with the end of Rocky 1, which was great.

And Ace Ventura 2 when they made fun of Cliffhanger.

This movie changed me. I had seen Aliens on VHS but seeing Terminator 2 as an 11 year old in the theater was mind blowing. The nuke scene later in the film perked my interest in war history and I’ve been buried in books about it ever since. 

BTW Linda Hamiton’s twin sister played the lady in the playground.

I don’t know the answer to this question, but the first opening scene that came to mind was the start of Inglorious Basterds. 

This is a flawlessly written, directed and performed scene.
