Most disappointed you ever were about a player NOT signing with the Angels

It's one of those things where sports just don't mean as much to me as they used to, for myriad reasons. So, although I probably wanted Cole more than I wanted any other player, I was not nearly as disappointed when the Angels failed to sign him as I was when, say, Teixeira signed with the Yankees.

Carl Crawford sucked at the time, but it worked out in retrospect.

Teixeira was a huge bummer for sure. It really felt like the Angels had a leg up. That was the original FA race with the joke threads called things like "Teix signs" (featuring photos of fan-made Mark Teixeira signs) and "Teix picks a club" (featuring a photo of him pulling out a golf club from a golf bag).

Looks like everyone here remembers what I remember.  Adrian Beltre and Carl Crawford.

Gerrit Cole is up there too, but I'm starting to believe it's  best they didn't.

But I'll offer a new one up. Torii Hunter.

His final season in Anaheim was great. He was Trout's mentor, a team leader and a crowd favorite.  Then Arte tells him they don't have the money to sign him,  and they turn around and drop 125 million in Josh Hamilton.

As far as an Angel not re-signing? Nolan Ryan in 1979. Thank you Bavasi. He famously said he could replace Ryan with two 8-7 pitchers. Well, he signed one pitcher to replace Ryan, and Bruce Kison went 3-6.

As far as a player from another team not signing? Randy Johnson in 1998. That was a done deal. Everyone in the baseball world, including Johnson, assumed he was going to be an Angel. However Bavasi part 2 happened, and his man crush on Moo Vaughn. The Angels never even made Johnson an offer. Angels could have had Randy Johnson and Rafael Palmeiro (who also wanted to sign here) for almost the same total money (97.4 million) that Moo Vaughn & Tim Belcher signed for (90.2 million).
