What an embarrassment that we are honoring this selfish Yankee...

Really cool story.  I get the feeling that he is one of those players I will be telling my grandkids about.  "I saw the best relief pitcher in baseball history."

Not only best relief pitcher, but he also has the highest adjusted ERA+ of ANY pitcher, starter or reliever, all-time.

Third best WHIP ever.

There are team fans, and there are baseball fans.  The two need not be mutually exclusive.

Well said.

Rivera is probably the greatest closer to ever put on a uniform, and we are about to see the end of a truly dominant career. A guy who just goes out and does his job, doesn't brag, doesn't show up opponents, and has done it with class the whole time. I'm not a fan of his team, but I appreciate the greats of the game no matter who they play for.

Agreed. I always hated how K-Rod handled his business. He would make a complete jerk out of himself after a save.

I am good with this and it is well deserved. I do not look at this as my dislike of the Yankees or players I look at this as the great individual accomplishment of Marino Rivera. He is a big part of MLB history.

I agree.

And he's a decent human being. For a point of contrast, A-Rod has had great individual accomplishments as well, but do you think you will see opposing teams honoring him when he decides to hang 'em up? Assuming he comes back from his "hip" surgery, that is.

It's OK to honor a great player AND a good guy, no matter what team he plays for.

If he can get enough steroids in him, he ought to be ready for spring training.

I still think its bullshit that we're honoring a player from another team. I didn't like it when we honored Ripken either. Speaking of Ripken, when is that Kevin Costner interview going to happen?

For those who are going to the game on Sunday, enjoy your Father's Day honoring a Yankee. I'm sure the guido next to you will be more than happy to rub it in your face.
