So last year, the Angels finished string, and many fans believe bed that if the season had been a full one, or even just 20 games longer for that matter, that they likely would've been a playoff team. 

Too little too late. 

5.5 GB isn't insurmountable, but it isn't exactly a small hill either, when you consider the teams they'll need to beat to get there (Yankees, Blue Jays, Indians, A's and Mariners). 

I mean the Yankees are terrible, and the Mariners are playing so far over their head they can't see the ground or the tremendous crash it'll cause when everything balances out. But the Jays, Indians and A's are all strong teams. 

The Angels will be getting Mike Trout back soon, and the development of Sandoval and Suarez had pushed Bundy and Quintana to the bullpen where there's definitely some intrigue. And having C-Rod, Detmers, Barria, Thaiss, Marsh and Adell all on standby for late season promotions gives them an interesting outlook.

I do think that if Perry does nothing, this will go on to be an 87 win team, which is what myself and many others originally predicted from this team before the season started. 

However, the AL is ultra competitive this year, and it's beginning to look like the second wild card winner will be a 90+ win team. Some years are just like that and for the Angels, unfortunately it looks like this year will be one of them. 

So is there anywhere they can add 5 wins to the roster? Absolutely. A good starter and 2-3 relievers would probably do it. But it would also level the farm and you don't want that. 

Right now, they're probably not going to sell or buy, they'll stand pat. Arte never liked selling anyway, and if they win 87, it creates some buzz heading into next season and there's also an outside possibility the teams ahead of them crater and they sneak in. 

But losing out on the prospects they could get for Iglesias, Cobb and Heaney will hurt a little.

all they need to do is win 2 out of every 3 games the rest of the way and they'll have a good shot at the second wild card.

Bummed to not have had Trout, Ohtani, Walsh, Rendon, and Upton all healthy.   Imagine that 2 through 6.

I hope we see it the rest of the season once Trout is back.  We could win 2 out of 3 if they were all healthy at once and the young pitching does well.

Backend might be fine now, if Wantz proves to be solid.

Issue is the lack of starter innings, which requires overuse of a inconsistent front end.

Need to find 1-2 front end guys that aren’t Slegers, Claudio, or Guerra.   Without parting with any valuable prospects

Claudio is frustrating this season. Only averaged 2.25 BBs per 9 innings prior to 2021, but it’s doubled this season.

Cishek is the odd duck.   In 36 innings, just 30 hits and ZERO gopher balls, but also 22 BBs.   He’d be fine if not for the BBs.

Update: only 18 BBs are non-intentional, still high but better.  Still hard to truly trust him, outside of middle relief

As they stand, no they are not.
