I like it.  Reasonable price for a 28 year old LOOGY with a good track record.  He was projected by MLB Trade Rumors to make $2.2 million via arbitration before being non-tendered by the Brewers.

This is a NICE signing, given the cost.  He really is only a ~500k addition in the sense that he will earn about 500k above the minimum, effectively displacing someone who would have otherwise earned the minimum.

Based on his mention of the shorter right field, I have to imagine we'll see another LHP added to the pen.  We might also see one of the two SPs we add be a LHP, a la Quintana.

Poor K rate but I'm guessing Minasian is banking on the infield D. Not to mention we needed a lefty in the pen.

I actually think it's the opposite of an Eppler-esque signing.

Claudio's fastball velocity and spin are each in the 1st percentile. Eppler loved guys who had velocity and spin in the high percentiles.

Yeah, I don't see it.

Eppler was all about spin rates.  This isn't a spin rate move.  Claudio has very, very consistently induced weak contact.  With a strong defensive IF, that should help greatly.

Focusing on positives, at least this gives hitters multiple looks- speed, arm angle, etc.   BP full of 97-100 FB guys is great but much easier to get used to when one after the other comes in.
