This is a breath of fresh air compared to the days of $9 million Cody Allens.

Agreed.  A lot of very good bullpens are built cheaply.  Especially this offseason, it'll be easy to cobble together various relievers at a low cost.  Minasian already spent "premium money" on Iglesias, his closer.  No need to spend much on the rest.  Save it for SP.

Seems like a solid addition.  Pretty good situational arm with a solid track record.  That hard contact percentile is a bit surprising considering that he’s sort of a soft tosser.  Pretty cool.  Cant really argue with the price tag either.

im not sure I remember the last time the angels made this many consecutive moves that weren’t baffling.  I enjoy this.

What I like in particular is that it appears Minasian is trying to build a diverse bullpen that features different types of talent and pitch repertoires.  Different hitters have different strengths and weaknesses - i.e., some can hit certain pitches better than others.  It's good to have a bullpen that features a wide array of pitchers, so that they can utilize guys whose strengths match up well against a particular hitter's weaknesses.

Iglesias is a 4-seamer/slider guy who mixes in a change-up as an effective 3rd pitch.

Mayers was pretty evenly split between a 4-seamer, cutter, and slider.

Pena, in relief, featured primary a sinker with sliders mixed in.

Buttrey is a 4-seamer/change, at least last year.  In previous years, he was mainly a 4-seamer and slider.

Claudio is a sinker/change/slider, but from the left-side with a funky arm angle.

pure lefty specialist.

If they don't let him pitch more than he should then it's fine.  And frankly, they did a good job of isolating Milner's appearances to lefties vs. righties at a ratio of 43 pa to 16 pa.  Milner just really sucked vs. both.  So if they keep the same approach with Claudio, then it will work.  As long as Maddon doesn't get too liberal with allowing him to face RHers.

This is not the one more solid pen piece that we need btw.  This takes care of about 40 innings 600-700 that the pen will account for.  Still need another arm for 60-70 moderate to high leverage innings imo.  The 5th, 6th or 7th.  A high end guy who is more in the elite range would be ideal but I would take another Buttrey or Mayers.

and @Lou might get arrested if Minasian brings back Bedrosian.

Then with that thought of thinking based off arm slot.  A Darren O'Day and another lefty closer type like Josh Hader/Grant Dayton/Tyler Matsek.

Then a couple of Rotation adds like a Odorizzi and Sugano/Paxton or a Trade for Gray works and still gives you enough money left to add a catcher and 4th OF or Right fielder type maybe bring back Goodwin/Pederson.

This is a great addition.  We needed bullpen arms.  And even with the signings, we still need some.  But his price is giving the Angels a lot of flexibility.

I'm liking what Minasian is doing so far.  He isn't blowing up the farm, isn't going all in to win now and fuck us in the future.  Of course he could still make those all in moves.  But so far, he's building a solid team that had a few gaping holes.
