Gameday Thread: Angels vs A's (7/27/20)

Base running really changed the complexion of the game. Again. Decent pitching, men on base but no clutch hitting or ability to push a run across the plate. The Simmons dp probably symbolized the whole season so far. No discipline, poise or patience.

Trout can't do it himself, but when he slumps no one else rises to the occasion. And it is fair that the biggest, richest star in the sport be expected to be the difference maker when the team is at it's lowest ebb. Not every at bat or game, but one good game of four in this freaky season is depressing. No worry in a regular year, but the Angels now are the equivalent of 3 - 8.

Maybe it's just that Oakland is that much better. Let's see what happens against the Mariners.

Angels clearly look like they are still in spring training.

Blame through the series should fall on Ohtani, Upton and Pujols. These guys are our run producers, yet these guys did jackshit.

Starting pitching was there, outside of Ohtani

Bullpen was iffy, but we had so many opportunities to blow the game up.

How many time did As pitching strike out strike? how many times did we leave the base loaded.

Pujols is not a run producer. Pujols knack for "hitting in clutch situations" is just the narrative that has been shoved down our throats to justify one of the worst FA signings in American sports' history.

Pujols is trash and is one of the worst players in MLB. His ass should be firmly cemented on the pine. I don't give a fuck how many HR's he hit when he played for St. Louis. The guy is worthless outside of some sort of sentimental, kumbaya type reasoning.

He does nothing well other than field balls that he can actually get to, which isn't many.

He has as many hits as Trout this season.

His approach at the plate last season, during spring training, summer camp (granted only 3 games of sample size) and so far in this season has been atrocious.

I'm starting to think we let him walk and give Fletcher the SS job, extend La Stella for 2B or let Rengifo take over in 2021.

Simmons GIDP 21 times last season in only 103 games. (Pujols had the same number but in 28 more games.)

Exactly.  His mere presence has always caused the team to be awkwardly constructed.  He also drove Torii Hunter away from the club, and we haven't had a clubhouse leader since.  Time for Fletcher to step into that role...he's doing everything else.
