English had a 28 on the front nine yesterday.   Talk about a strong start to the Fed Ex Cup!

We don’t talk about X-man’s current position.

X-man sighting!   Only 2 behind the leader!

Shared low 2nd round score today with Speith (-9 62).   It’s ironic since both are battling for the last automatic Ryder Cup spot.

Cameron Smith -11 with one hole to go. His tee shot is in the fairway on 18.

I jinxed him. He parred the 18th for a 60. 

11 birdies, 7 pars. Leading by two strokes.

Tomorrow's final round has been canceled as tropical storm Henri is moving in. They will try for Monday.

Smith had only one 5 on his scorecard yesterday. 
 

i, too, have had rounds with only a single 5, yet with much different results.

Final round of the women’s British Open right now. Very competitive and a good match to watch. They’re playing at Carnoustie, too, so some potential for drama.

Victor Hovland smashed his putter against his bag in frustration and broke it.  He has to putt with his 9-iron for the final nine holes.

congrats to tony finau on his second career win. another good golfer who doesn't win nearly as often as he should.

Really close race now for the 6th auto spot on the US Ryder Cup team 

Finau, X-man, and Spieth

Finau really helped his cause.

X-man fell one spot to 7th, with another so-so final round, but still finished in top 20.

To say Spieth struggled yesterday is an understatement.   His 79 dropped him back one spot and further behind X-man.

Bryson shot a 60 today. Missed a 6 footer for 59.

Cantlay the Bruin shot a 63.

Bryson was pretty awesome with 330 yard drives dropping in the fairway. There are no par 5's in his game when he plays like this. Only Birdies with a chance of Eagle.

DeChambeau is on fire again today. 

6-under in his first eight holes, including a 50-ft curving eagle putt.

59-watch on again.

Bryson has mud on top of the ball and drops his 2nd shot in the water.

And... he dumps a pretty easy iron shot into the water. Off the tee he has landed in the rough, ball above his feet and hit amazing recovery shots.

This time he is on a section of perfect fairway grass with a straight shot at the hole and hits the ball with the clubface open and fades into the lake. His drop is in deep rough and gets safely on the green but is going to have to pay the price for lost ball and drop.

Well done, he survives with just a bogey. It becomes a two shot loss because Rahm and Cantlay both birdie and make up a lot of ground.

Bryson has gone mental. Tee shot into the drink on a par 3.

Bryson's game settled down a little. There is a bunch of players 4 shots back of the leaders. Tomorrow could get really interesting if any make a charge.

Cantley just birdied so the the field outside of DeChambeau is currently 5 shots back.

I want to like Bryson so bad, but…..as you stated a few posts above @Blarg, he plays great, then just goes mental.  Sometimes he recovers, often he doesn’t.  This kind of mentality usually doesn’t carry over well into events like the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup.  I hope I am proven wrong with that statement, because I really like his aggressive style of “risk vs reward” play.  I just don’t think that will work in Ryder Cup play where it may be necessary to carry your partner.

Cantlay is a guy a really like.  His back story is pretty crazy, and that’s why he is always a sentimental guy a pull for.  I wish I had his tempo in my golf swing.  He has a perfect swing, like Collin Morikawa does.

Should be a good finish today.

Bryson can be a whiney baby. King Cobra is about fed up being his sponsor while he berates their technology staff because his 5 degree driver isn't hitting center fairway with his monster swing. Yes, you read that right, he has a 5 degree driver. Close to the same loft of a sledgehammer.  

On the other hand yesterday while setting up for another recovery shot he was joking with the gallery. So he is Jeckle and Hyde which makes him harder to like. Occasionally tantrums mixed in with some brilliant play from anywhere on the course. I envy his amazing strength and clubface control out of the rough and on crazy side hill lies. He can be must see golf but at the same time you aren't necessarily rooting for him.

In the end he is worth about $14 million and that number is just going to rise so I don't think he cares much about fans as he does trophies. He is no Arnold Palmer.

Bryson nearly drives the first hole, ending up in the bunker in front of the flag. Both score birdies to start the round. This could be one hell of a round for the final pairing.
