Thanks for the brilliant insight.  LOL.  Of course "the money is there."  The money is there for essentially any team to do something crazy like that--but no one is going to.

You’re welcome.  LOL.

Whoops.  I just realized that I misread the excerpt.  I thought it had COLE coming here, too.  My bad.

Nah, its all good.  I thought maybe I needed to read the Athletic Article thinking it might lead to us spending more than on just those two.

I just think that if you make it into the playoffs, and Ohtani is as good as I believe he will be, which is an ace, I think a lot of good things can happen with a rotation fronted by the second best playoff pitcher of this era in Strasburg, Ohtani, who can shut an offense down completely, and Ryu, who if he's healthy, has been dominant.

And if those three don't get the 450 combined innings that I picture them getting, that's where Pat Sandoval, Jaime Barria and Jose Suarez come into play. Having three guys in AAA that are as good as they are is a strength, and all three are likely to get better.

And this allows Canning to operate as that 6th starter, which limits those innings, but also allows him ample opportunity to refine his game. He has mid rotation starter written all over him. He just needs reps and guidance.

It could be an ideal fit.

I wouldn’t hate a Strasburg/Ryu combo instead of Cole - they’re riskier arms, yes, but you’re pinning all of your hopes on Cole also staying healthy. He goes down with TJS and we’re basically right back to square one. So while yes, Strasburg and Ryu have some concerns, I don’t think it’s any more and less than one Cole, should you be able to sign them both.

This was my preference all along. I don't believe it will come to fruition because the Angels are serious about Cole.

It's a great plan b.
