Are the Angels a dysfunctional organization?

don't even think he gets that much.  He'll be 32 in october and has a year of misery on his docket.  I think he goes year to year for the rest of his career.  Maybe 1/8 next year with an option.

So the Angels could pay the $2M option and re-sign him for $8M, paying $10M rather than $14M? I'd consider that.

There comes a time when being mediocre is a huge negative. It is hard to draft quality when you pick in the middle of the draft year after year. Signing Wilson, Pujols and especially Hamilton cost numerous high draft. The Wells trade was horrendous. Eppler way overpaying for Harvey, Cahill and Upton has set back the organization even more. Of the four free agents signed last fall/winter only  Cahill remains because he can pitch multiple innings out of the pen. The Angels are always near the top of the AL in homers allowed playing in a ballpark that is home  run neutral. All this points to poor management.

Which high picks did they cost us?

Why would you say Upton is overpaid?  Because he has been hurt this year?

How so? None of those guys cost a draft pick and Harvey and Cahill are gone after the season.

Three of the four have already been DFA’d! No other teams were going to give Harvey, Allen or Cahill the amount of money that the Angels gave them. Upton received 5/125 when most other thirty something OF settled for one year contracts. The three pitchers were an over reach. This doesn’t count Justin Bour another bust. My point is that Eppler had a really poor offseason which the Angels can’t afford to repeat.

Upton received 5 years and $105 million.  They basically gave him an extra year, but lowered his annual salary.  He was considered pretty comparable to JD Martinez because he was better with the glove as Martinez and a better baserunner.

Bour got $2.5 million, go throughout all of baseball and their are a ton of busts.

Yea, Eppler fucked up, for a year.  In October all of his fuck ups from 2019 are off the books.

Meanwhile their predictions ...  https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/11/mlb-free-agent-predictions-2019.html

Matt Harvey – Reds.  Two years, $22MM.
Trevor Cahill – Blue Jays.  Two years, $22MM.
Cody Allen – Braves.  Two years, $16MM.

Also here's FG's -- https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2019-top-50-free-agents/

but narratives.

Too bad the trade was with Milwaukee...

Doh. Good call. Im getting dumber with old age (and my starting point wasnt the best, to be honest).

Point stands though. Mill or anyone else was targetting prospects, not vets.

And it would have been dumb on our end to trade a a vet starter in a playoff and debut a rookie to replace him.
